For someone whos been highly critical of Republicans opposed to Obamacare, Jon Stewart was really adamant in pressing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius about issues he has with the health care bill, from the website bugs to the one-year business delay that individuals didnt get. He repeatedly pressed that last point and got noticeably frustrated at the lack of a clear response.

(24,733 posts)Esp. as someone who is not getting all good from ACA. He said things I've said to phone reps and others for the system here in WA state (where I still can't get online), and had them treat me like an idiot. He spoke for me.
I'm all for health CARE reform - single payer all the way. But I'm not blindly following my party or Pres where I see improvements can be made.

(881 posts)This plays right into the GOP narrative of:
WEBSITE BUGS? BETTER DENY INSURANCE TO MILLIONS THEN! HURR DURR!
It's easy for assholes like Stewart to sit back and mock things like the ACA when he will never have to worry about not being covered.
I take this personally, not as a Democrat and supporter of the President... but as a person this law is helping (family and personally).

(46,416 posts)that the system is buggy and should work better, but accusing Sebelius of lying because he didn't like her answer is dick move of the week.

(11,936 posts)As a person who works in this field myself, I'm not at all surprised that there were a lot of glitches coming out the door, I'm also not at all surprised that they've fixed a good deal of them and I'm not at all surprised that there are more left to fix and I'm not at all surprised that they had to wait to see what they were gonna get hit with before really knowing how much more power they needed to put behind their servers.

(45,442 posts)the true answer is that those businesses who were affected by this, stated that they need more time to prepare. Their budgets and hiring need to be planned in advance and there was still way too much uncertainty for them to buy plans now that take effect in January. I'm not supporting this decision, just understanding why it happened.
Individuals of course can and want to buy it sooner. The small business exchange is up by the way. Any small business that wants to buy plans are welcome to do so here. https://www.healthcare.gov/small-businesses/
She wasn't prepared for other questions like cutting hours either. The truth is very few of them have cut hours, most have not because businesses don't make staffing decisions based on benefits or taxes, but on consumer demand and forecasted revenues.
And what nobody on our side is saying often enough, is that the real "job killer" is the uncertainty in our economy due to the completely avoidable debt ceiling and budget crises we face very few months thanks to these asshole Republicans. Stability in our economy encourages businesses of all types to hire more workers.
I'm sure she's been busy but it looks like she wasn't adequately prepped for this interview and she looked a bit flustered.
