Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell caught on hot mic talking shutdown strategy

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) were caught on a hot mic Wednesday discussing talking-points for the shutdown by local news station WPSD 6.

"I just did CNN and I just go over and over again 'We're willing to compromise. We're willing to negotiate.' I think... I don't think they poll tested we won't negotiate. I think it's awful for them to say that over and over again," Paul said.

"Yeah, I do too and I, and I just came back from that two hour meeting with them and that, and that was basically the same view privately as it was publicly," McConnell agreed.

Paul added, "I think if we keep saying, 'We wanted to defund it. We fought for that and that we're willing to compromise on this', I think they can't, we're gonna, I think... well, I know we don't want to be here, but we're gonna win this, I think."

They just talk about how they're going to win, not what they're doing to make sure they win. Paul says he goes to the pres and talks compromise. He doesn't say anything about Republicans making compromise impossible.

but on the other, the government keeps lots of secrets including the exchanges in the negotiations of the leadership when leaders disagree, you invite lies, deception and dirty tricks.

Just think about your own marriage, family, or friendships. If you keep a secret, a big secret, from your spouse, chances are sooner or later, you will have to lie or cheat to protect the secret.

That is why I oppose all the secrecy and spying, etc. in our government.

We should be as open and honest with each other as we can.

Our government has become a nest (on all sides, all parties) of secretive liars. It's all pretend. It's not real.

This will not work in the end.

Some things that affect no one but yourself you can keep secret. But when you negotiate with others in secret constantly, you are in for trouble.

The discussions in each caucus, the Democrats and then on the other hand, the Republicans, can be secret. But the discussions between the president and members of Congress should be public. We should know specifically who is saying what. There should be a transcript. And it should be published for us to see.

The Republicans are wasting precious time with their childish games. And it is all intended to fool people into voting for them.

by cheating, lying, pouting, and throwing temper tantrums until they get what they want.

Seems to work pretty well for them. I hope that it does not work this time.

What a concept, saying the same thing in public as in private. Whatdasay Mitch, do you do that? Can you even do that without engaging in damage control?

While you're up there on Capital Hill duncing it up, RAND, our nation suffers.

You had the opportunity to speak 3 years ago and you said NO.

This needs to go viral.

They have spent their careers demonizing Liberals plus the RW Noise Machine they built has got their back. Plus, they have bought their own propaganda.

They honestly can't picture giving ANY respect to the other side AT ALL. To them, it's a done deal that they are superior and the other side MUST give in to them. Besides, Liberals have yielded in the past on major issues. No doubt we will cave because we worship government and this shutdown makes us cry.

Right?

I like the comment above that says, "what a cute little rookie he is" - hahahahaha so true.

and the words the turtle was looking for when he said he'd just came back from a 2 hr meeting with "him", are "the president", but they don't dare call him that in private circles, they'll be called traitors to the confederacy! LOL
