Iran-Contra Redux? Prince Bandar Heads Secret Saudi-CIA Effort to Aid Syrian Rebels, Topple Assad

My apologies if this has been posted already.

Text from Democracy Now! transcript:

The Wall Street Journal recently revealed new details about how Prince Bandar bin Sultan al-Saud — Saudi’s former ambassador to the United States — is leading the effort to prop up the Syrian rebels. Intelligence agents from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Jordan and other allied states are working at a secret joint operations center in Jordan to train and arm hand-picked Syrian rebels.

The Journal also reports Prince Bandar has been jetting from covert command centers near the Syrian front lines to the Élysée Palace in Paris and the Kremlin in Moscow, seeking to undermine the Assad regime.

"Really what he’s doing is he’s reprising a role that he played in the 1980s when he worked with the Reagan administration to arrange money and arms for mujahideen fighters in Afghanistan and also worked with the CIA in Nicaragua to support the Contras," says Wall Street Journal reporter Adam Entous.

and the Obama administration is doing the war dance.

A Saudi prince has more influence over our country than a 51% majority group of voting American citizen.

Maybe we should be saying the Pledge to Saudi Arabia instead of to America.

what's really interesting to me is this guy is always around with the sneaky projects like Contras in Nicaragua and Mujahideen in Afghanistan.

He is called Bandar-Bush bec. he is so close to the Bushes.

I'd love to send her the link as I've told her to follow the money all the way to Saudi Arabia, but since Bandar hadn't been mentioned much in the recent past, she thought I was making it up...being a good friend of George, and family.

Into the mix, oil bombs, greed, blood.

run a pipeline through syria, syria said no to his plan, thus started cooking chemical attack 'intelligence'. Money and profit from some kind of oil deal is at the bottom of all this war talk, attack talk. Bet your bottom dollar. It's all about geo-positioning of the superpower to be able to access resources for the MIC. And plain old PNAC imperialism.

The "Save the Contras" posters were part of short-lived fund-raising campaign by college Republicans in 1985. It came to a halt after "Save the Children," which it was mimicking, complained. [Congress' Iran Contra Depositions, v. 22, 855]
