Raw: First Morning Rush for New Bay Bridge

The $6.4-billion San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge opened to the public overnight with little fanfare. And it didn't take long for the public for fill up the new span during the morning commute. (Sept 3)

I got to drive it today, the new bridge is pretty awesome.

That merge would be nasty and stressful in this part of the country.

They'll need to cut food stamps to pay for it.

4. i think the saddest part was that the steel all came from China.

Otherwise an amazing project and nicer than the old span.
tolls are

2 axle vehicles between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m., between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday—$4.00
2 axle vehicles between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday—$6.00
2 axle vehicles between 12:01 a.m. Saturday and midnight Sunday— regular toll: $5.00

when going to SF.

5. Wasn't it made in China, assembled in SF?

7. I thought some of the sections were put together in China before...

...shipping it over here. And yes, it is beyond sad that someone (Caltrans, legislature, or ?) would make the decision to buy steel from another country--which does not have an unemployment problem--instead of the country that does.

3. Driving the entire Bay Bridge (Both Directions) During Shutdown 400% Real Speed

the bridge was shut down for three days while they switched it over to the new span.
