(61,935 posts)they need someone who is intellectually capable of formulating alternative policies instead of just filibustering or refusing to bring things to the floor of the house. Newt might be a piece of shit, but as the Contract on America demonstrates he is a piece of shit capable of formulating a legislative agenda.

(3,076 posts)... you beat me to the punch! The, "Gingerich Revolution", of 1994, that hate for Clinton fueled, self interest first and statesmanship last credo is what brought us well on our way to this dysfunctional Congress we have today. Yep. Good call, Spitfire of ATJ!

(81,440 posts)I remember his smug, arrogant, swaggering boast - "I'M a BACK-BENCH BOMB-THROWER!!!" Damn near broke both his arms patting himself on the back.
Whatsa matter, newty? You wanna make nice now?
And he couldn't even get a full sentence out purportedly decrying this bad behavior in others (of course, NOT including himself) by pairing the term "Obama administration" with - I think the word he used was - "disastrous" or some such adjective. STILL throwin' mud, aren't you, asshole? You just can't help yourself, can you? Only problems are, you were widely-credited with your own party's deterioration, AND you had your own girl on the side for whom you actually threw over a perfectly good and loyal wife (you did that a couple of times, actually) WHILE you were trying to impeach Bill Clinton for the whole Monica smear. And far too many people remember all that. We keep score, too. And by now, you're not as capable of fooling as many people. A LOT more people understand you and who and what you are, and know the truth than back in your heyday.
Miserable bastard. Doesn't even know enough to go away.
Spitfire of ATJ
(32,723 posts)He had it all worked out.
Clinton removed from office over Monica.
Gore removed from office over Iced Tea.
Newt being raised up to the office on an ivory column with a star spangled sky behind him.
Everybody could tell Newt was listening to that crap too.
...and believing it.
That became very evident when Clinton had Newt sit in the back of Air Force One and for revenge Newt shut down the government.

(813 posts)They have never had any ideas about universal coverage...because they don't give a shit.
They at least paid lip service back when the health care battle with President Clinton was going on...what Bob Dole proposed was almost identical to the ACA, but of course they don't acknowledge that now.
There is such a pervasive mentality that "health care is a privilege, not a right," and the maddening false argument of "it's not in the Constitution" in the Republican Party that they will do all they can to block universal health care.
Of course, there are still their brilliant ideas about "tort reform" and "buying across state lines."

(3,795 posts)In my personal life, the right wing Tea Party types bitch and moan about everything, but when I ask them for solutions to the problems they bitch about they have nothing. Absolutely nothing. Well, some of them say "the free market will figure it out". You know if we just get rid of all of those damn regulations. <---- That opinion is tragically misinformed. I never can get them to reconcile how we supposedly have too much regulation, but we also have regulatory capture wherein big business owns our regulatory agencies via the revolving door. They all believe both of these things simultaneously.
They are simply brainwashed, hateful sheep.

(50,562 posts)Newt was one of the main guys who developed the dual mandate that both Romney and Obama revolve their health plans around.
It's not that there's a mandate in there. I believe that when Romney signed his health plan the Republicans were celebrating because moochers would no longer be able to dump their doctor bills on hard working responsible people. (That Mass is full of Democrats also encouraged them because, y'know, we libruls spend all our money on donations to the Communist Party, pounds of weed and weekly abortions, correct?)
It is that a Democrat's signature is at the bottom of this. I swear on The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster that if Barack Obama were to sign a bill that says meat tastes good and hunting is fun Ted Nugent would become a PETA-supporting vegan.

(55,981 posts)What has happened to the Republican Party was by design. Instead of two healthy political parties fighting it out and coming to honest bipartisan solutions, we only have one party that makes the least bit of sense. Much easier for the PTB to control. Most Republicans are too stupid to recognize that they are being used. The Newt might be spilling the beans.
By having only one viable party that's center-right, it shuts out the left which is exactly what the PTB want.

(229 posts)Of course they don't have another "alternative" - how can you do better than using armed govt thugs to FORCE the American people to hand "their money" to the stockholder-billionaires that OWN "our" (sic) Health Care / Insurance companies?
"Pay for my Yacht or the IRS will throw you in a cage." It doesn't get any better than that.
Oh, wait, yes it does. Pretending the plan the Rethugs themselves authored to enrich their paymasters is a "horrible commie agenda" is a "beyond amazing" demonstration of hypocrisy - but a darn effective way to get those on the Left with short-memories to think they "won".

(14,304 posts)ObamaCare was a GOP idea. Yeah, it was RomneyCare, but it was ChafeeCare before that. Obama stole y'alls thunder, and there's only one way to even the score.
You have to lead the charge for Universal Healthcare and steal a Democratic idea from the Democratic Party.
They pull a knife. You pull a gun.
They send one of yours to the hospital. You send one of theirs to the morgue.
They steal a GOP idea. You OWN a Democratic idea.
THAT is the Chicago Way.
