Here in California, 24 years of mostly Republican governors nearly bankrupted our state.

It took Jerry Brown and a majority Democratic legislature plus the willingness of voters to impose new taxes on everyone to turn it around.

Thom is right about the gutting of the industrial base in Detroit and a number of other major US cities.

The city employees of Detroit are being asked to pay the price for "free trade" for the big corporations. Nothing wrong with trading with other countries. But there is a lot wrong with not taxing the imports to insure the prosperity at home.
