Republicans Kill Anti-Child Marriage Bill: Why?

Last edited Sun Jul 21, 2013, 09:27 PM - Edit history (2)

I found a man to speak, no more children. Sorry, this video is almost three years old.

I'm posting this because of what the Tea Party did in 2010. Elected by the use of cheerleaders in the media, created by the Koch Brothers, their purpose all along, I said, was not as stated.

It was to make sure that those Bush tax cuts didn't sunset and Keystone was passed. They knew Obama ran on the figures of the deficit reducing of that sunset. They used every lie to inflame their base into voting, and depress ourse. It came from all sides, in order to get in and do the deed. It worked wonderfully.

As soon as they could, they did that for their masters. But this is something they also did, and the war on women is not just here in the USA, but in the world. No light of reason or compassion is left unchallenged by the RWNJs.

One of their actions, against the right of women anywhere to have any say so in their llves is below and I felt the previous video reflects this world wide attitude that seems to be building to take away all women's rights. Since a DUer complained, I am editing this OP to remove the video and am posting what my concerns are.

The GOP through the Koch brothers, ALEC and the Tea Party are waging an intensive media and legislative war on women in this country, to remove women's dreams of getting an education, career or lives of their own.

House GOP Crushes Bill That Would Protect Against Child Marriage

Rachel Slajda - December 20, 2010

On Thursday night, hours before passing the tax cut compromise, House Republicans thwarted a bill that aimed to protect girls around the world from being coerced into child marriage. They opposed it because, they claimed, it might fund abortions.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN), was blindsided. After the Child Marriage Protection Act passed the Senate with zero objection on Dec. 1 -- a rare feat these days -- it didn't seem like there was much to worry about.

But just before the vote began, Republican leadership blasted out a "whip alert" to GOP staffers with a message: Vote no. The alert claimed the bill cost too much and that a competing bill, introduced just the day before, would be better.

"There are also concerns that funding will be directed to NGOs that promote and perform abortion and efforts to combat child marriage could be usurped as a way to overturn pro-life laws," the alert read.

And so the bill, which needed a two-thirds vote to pass under the suspended rules, failed. Even some congressmen who sponsored the bill voted no.

If someone has found that the HoR changed their minds and story is no longer correct, let me know, I believe the GOP in the HoR followed up this with refusing to sign a treaty what stated the principle of equal treatment for the disabled as we have here in the USA.

Their argument was something about it hurting business. This has got to stop.

"If someone finds this offensive, let me know and I will delete."

Well then do so!

This is PURE staged anti-muslim propaganda.

You should do a bit of research into MEMRI.

PS - And this has WHAT to do with the Koch bros. agenda?

The reason given was the same as ALEC has pushed, they give the reason that it might allow abortions in other countries. Which is a spurious excuse, and a idea that has been pushed by extreme conservatives since the days of Reagan, and all the way through Bush.

It's been much discussed on DU the influence that ALEC, a Koch brothers front group, had in state legislatures, affecting American women's rights in this country.

We know some fundamentalist Christians in this country want to end women's' rights to choose, be educated, and even to vote. Some cults are even calling for arranged marriages.

I don't see this as a religious issue, but I'm going to look into what you say, and will consider deleting this for you.

AFAIK, two MEMRI videos on DU got good reviews and were not seen to be anti-Muslim, and this video doesn't mention any religion, either. It mentions a country that allows this level of control legally over a young woman in the most crucial matter, control of her own body, and how her life is to be lived.

We have people in this country saying that is what they want, a theocracy based on the old testament of the Christian Bible - or rather their way of reading the Bible, that is. I'll get back to you, but would appreciate if you can look at this in ths context that it was posted.

The girl could have been in any country, and it does not mention their religion. I do not see a religion there, and am not from that area, for all I know, they are Yemeni Christians if you want to go the religion road.

But I do know the Koch brothers have pushed all these agendas, and created the Tea Party with the help of media, so that's where I'm coming from.

I'll get back with you.

video on child marriage for me to use. This simply came up as the first search result for an Obama video at youtube.

I have no idea what Israel, Iraq or Kuwait have to do with this story. So help me make this about child marriage, and not what you say it is. As I said above, but you didn't respond, there are two other MEMRI videos here.

I'm not picking sides in the ME or in religions, as you see my concerns are about America. I'm making a post about a girl who looks much like I did at that age.

But she is much more forward than I was, but then, I have not lived her life, either.

So help us all out here, with anything you think is better.

He says its propaganda, well let him prove it. Provide links.. and proof that it is. The girl was not co riced, no one was bending her arm back to make her talk. She's telling how it is. If he approves of these child marriages, than maybe what this is all about. Child Marriages used to be something Japan had back in the Edo days of Early Japan. Kids were sold into slave labor, or to pay off the fathers debt. It was often used to make the family have great connections with the rich and wealthy in Japan. Children are NOT PROPERTY... They should not be treated as a commodity.

MEMRI is propaganda machine made up of former (and current) members of Israeli hardcore RW. Their message is anti-Muslim..... not pro-women's rights.

But they know exactly how to conflate that message to their best advantage.

Hell, I'm with you on the crap the Koch bros. are trying to pull in this country. If you try to conflate that message with the anti-Muslim propaganda spewed by MEMRI, ...... I'm not going along with it.

conflate |kənˈflāt|
verb [ trans. ]
combine (two or more texts, ideas, etc.) into one : the urban crisis conflates a number of different economic and social issues.
DERIVATIVES
conflation |-ˈflā sh ən| |kənˈfleɪʃən| |-ˈfleɪʃ ə n| noun
ORIGIN late Middle English (in the sense [fuse or melt down metal] ): from Latin conflat- ‘kindled, fused,’ from the verb conflare, from con- ‘together’ + flare ‘to blow.’

I didn't mix religion except the ones oppressing us in the USA through the Koch brothers and their ALEC legislation which harms all women in this country. They did this because they are anti-choice. That is in the OP as the reason given for not signing against child marriage.

Their actions also hurt young girls abroad, as the OP stated by not even allowing a statement to be made, as with disability, with no force of law.

I'm looking for a generic video. I'm finding child marriages being protested in India, Pakistan, etc. It so happens those nations have Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs.

You've won, I will not post any of those. The OP is being edited as we speak, and will not show any child protesting her marriage in any nation.

This is important for people to see. Don't back down. And as to worrying about women's issues in this country too, I don't see why we can't do both.

Then again, I love puppies.

Heartbreaking, and such a waste of young lives just like Trayvon. As Obama said, he could have been him, what a loss to the world each of our young people across the planet are.

Unlimited potential for the world. I didn't think this was anti-Islamic but about changes that need to be made world wide.

Thanks very much for posting and caring about the lives of these girls. They are the future.
