(75,480 posts)It casts doubt on this just being an accident because he was speeding, especially when one of his friends said he drove like an old woman. It seems it was settled he was going eighty miles an hour. There were all kinds of speeds thrown out at first of anything between sixty and a hundred MPH. It will be awhile before the toxicology test results come out, maybe six to eight weeks. I wonder why it takes so long?

(46,335 posts)There are going to be screams of "cover up!" and "payoffs!" any and every conspiracy theory out there, straight from the Alex Jones crowd.
I still see right-wingers and left-wingers who claim to have "proof" that Andrew Breitbart, Hugo Chavez and Yassir Arafat were "poisoned."
Guess what!
Shit happens.
People will get drunk and/or drive too fast.
Others get fat and lazy and their hearts give out.
Others get cancer.
Still others get old and sick.

(26,624 posts)Current trend is that our toxicology labs are indeed not reliable;thus, many are given no choice but to call into question such sloppy analysis...
This young man clearly has nothing to do with your list of suggestions of what can happen in life....
And makes no sense either to these young journalist who are starting to question the facts being given to the public...

(5,275 posts)But some of it has been verified nefarious like our government giving non white people syphilis and other similar experiments and lying about it for some time. The US House agreed that it was likely a conspiracy that killed JFK. So it isn't all Alex Jones nonsense. One of the tricks of establishment types is to lump all conspiracy theories as whacko. There is a big difference in questioning the JFK hit and thinking the moon landing was faked or thinking people live in the interior earth.
Drunk or whatever, it is unlikely someone with a non lead foot would drive at those extreme speeds. Many drunk people's mistake is being too careful and going too slow.
Maybe this was just an accident but maybe it wasn't, it still seems fishy to me, especially considering the powerful interests he was going after.

(493 posts)For whatever reasons, dump on people as being crazy CTs and lump them in with the really crazy (some-crazy-as-a-fox) CTs. Also, going off on irrelevant tangents. Then the little people can all get in lock step to what is considered safe and necessary.

(20,453 posts)Fact: There are some fringe theories of MIHOP, LIHOP, with everything one could imagine in-between
Fact: Because it is so bizarre to lump the above with some truth, that makes many honest conspiracies to cover up reality based. This would be based on actual physical evidence, which someone already mentioned about JFK. That's true.
Fact: There's a lot of push back and division about the nature of what has happened to journalists (imbedded -v- non-imbedded Iraq war journalists, for one)
I get pretty discouraged when there's reason to probe further with unanswered questions, and Hastings falls under that category. We should want to know the truth. If you paid attention to Cenk Uygur (TYT) you heard this already.
Let's find out what we can because there is every reason that we should.

(1,716 posts)there's Iran/Contra where the criminals were all caught and prosecuted and then pardoned.
See, Iran/Contra is proof of a real conspiracy, not some wacky CT, that went on for years involving many countries and killing thousands.
You have to have some serious denial brewing somewhere to believe that these conspiracies don't exist. Especially since these known conspirators have been released and are still out there, but now they have been promoted to where they have a firmer grip on the levers of power.

... In the first study, researchers, led by UW professor Tadayoshi Kohno and UCSD professor Stefan Savage, were able to hack just about everything electronic in a car ... The UW and UCSD researchers took the criticism to heart, and published a follow-up paper in 2011 ... "I think Occam's Razor suggests that this is perhaps the least likely way that your car might ever crash," said Savage. "It's both really hard and the amount of effort is particularly enormous when compared with the goal of injuring one individual" ... "If I was trying to get rid of someone, this is way on the bottom of the list of options I'd consider" ...

(26,624 posts)You've seen the OnStar commercial: A stolen SUV is remotely disabled and glides safely into the median, no police chase necessary. Convenient and safe! But what's to stop a nefarious hacker from doing that too? Not much, say researchers.
It's not really a surprise, I suppose. These systems are essentially a computer and a network just like any other computer system and network, so "it was only a matter of time" comes to mind. That time is now, thanks to researchers from the University of Washington and the University of California, San Diego, who were able to take control of cars via their network and force them to stop, turn off their engines, disable their brakes, ormost troublingdischarge window washing fluid with wanton abandon.
The one saving grace, if there is one, was that the researchers had to first physically attach a laptop to the diagnostics port. Not an easy task, but certainly not an impossible one either (think: annual car inspection process). [Autosec via Boing Boing]

The fact that it can be done, is enough for me to wonder about the safety of our roads....

(3,539 posts)I mean what's up with that?
Remember how evil Clinton was? My, my, remember all the Clinton scandlas.
And now with Obama we have...
Fast and Furious, giving guns to drug lords.
And of course Benghazi.
And Obama's ileagel targeting of the Tea Party by the IRS.
Wasn't some Fox news reporter also harressed ?
Did I remember to mention Benghazi.
Oh yes their is of course Edward Snowden, Do you know that if five short years Obama built the largest spy network on the planet?
Shameful. The United States never, ever was involved with this cloak and dagger stuff before Obama.
Did I remember to mention Valerie Plame ,,,, er,,,, er,,,, I mean Benghazi.
And now this! The murder of Vincent Foster.
Oops, sorry, I got mixed up. It's the murder of Michael Hastings this time.
Mark my words, when they look in the lower left hand drawer of Obama's desk their going to find a blue dress and a cigar.
Did I remember to mention Benghazi?
Dam! Why are they always like that?
Dam! Somewhere Karl Rove is laughing his ass of at us.

(3,539 posts)I feel like I have seen this movie before.
Sure, different actors, different leading lady, it's just the story line seems so similar.
Hay, Stephen King writes like Stephen King. Karl Rove writes like Karl Rove.
Or maybe I have a case of Yogi Berra syndrome.

(5,217 posts)would perform the investigation looking for any clue of foul play. If they don't do that in this case then I will smell a rat.
I am waiting to hear what they are actually doing to analyze scene for foul play. I won't hold my breath. But it will be revealing to learn what analysis they perform.
I will call bullshit if they don't :
- test for accelerants or explosives residue,
- reconstruct the vehicle trajectory from the tracks,
- reconstruct the trajectory of the engine and how it broke free,
- study the source of the fire's ignition.
I will also call bullshit if :
- there are agencies involved in the investigation that are not SOP,
- there are inter-agency turf wars over who leads the investigation,
- the car disappears,
- the tree is cut down and hauled away,
- witnesses die mysteriously.

(75,480 posts)considering some botched investigations in the past into the deaths of famous people that left more questions than answers. I'm hoping that his relatives and his news organization conducts a separate investigation and does separate tests to confirm the results or question them.
