First time I saw him in a movie I was like who the fuck is this guy? Then watched him take on guys from the Westboro Baptist Church on his show. He handled them with such grace and humor it was inspiring to watch. Then instantly became a huge fan.

I saw the Sarah Marshall and Get Me to the Greek movies and was generally aware of him as a Brit comedian / actor.

Brand tossed a boatload of transparency, wit, and smarts onto Morning Joe. Liked the references to Snowden and Manning too. He took over the show and wish Joe Scar was there alas.

Here is his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Brand.

I had no idea of his breadth or history except he was a funny Brit.

Haven't watched TV nor seen a movies except internet documentaries and news clips and music videos since 2010. Too old to ever have been into MTV.

I remember a great interview he did a few years ago with some Westboro folks. He's very quick-witted.

canon. His episode with the two guys from Westboro Baptist should be in the textbooks of how to deal with folks like them.

22. Russell Brand cancels Middle East gigs

Russell Brand has scrapped a number of dates in the Middle East after being told his safety could not be guaranteed.

He had been booked to perform in Abu Dhabi and Lebanon on his Messiah Complex world tour.

His routine deals with figures such as Malcolm X, Gandhi and Jesus.

"Those gigs have been banned, pulled because of threats from extremists that if I went there there would be problems," Brand told Radio 5live.

"The venue contacted us and said we can no longer guarantee your safety."

This is pretty interesting timing.
