For years, warning labels on Tylenol have listed the risks of acute liver failure from taking the drug with alcohol or in conjunction with other products containing acetaminophen. However, Johnson and Johnson and its subsidiary McNeil Consumer Healthcare have used strategic marketing to hide the fact that acetaminophen is actually dangerous to the liver, with or without alcohol.
(Acetaminophen is the) leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States, accounting for 450 deaths per year in the United States, 20,000 hospitalizations 56,000 emergency room visits, said Troy Rafferty in an interview with Mike Papantonio on Ring of Fire.

(3,622 posts)the more he sounds like a ambulance chaser. There were several statements made in this video that twisted the reality what the real issues are with acetaminophen. Anyone with a basic research on this medication should be able to see straight through the horseshit he is spouting.

(3,910 posts)Clearly you don't practice what you preach, as "basic research" since the 1970's has shown that acetaminophen causes liver damage in high doses.
I advise you to read the following links before you get on here and shoot your mouth off about things that you clearly don't understand:
From the FDA - http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm168830.htm
From WebMD - http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/acetaminophen-liver-damage-directory
The New York Times - http://www.nytimes.com/1994/10/21/us/liver-patient-wins-suit-against-maker-of-tylenol.html
Your disdain for Papantonio, lack of basic research skills, and defense of big pharma leads me to believe that you are working for a drug company. Otherwise, why get so angry over an honest video?

(6,187 posts)It's the breathless reporting of old knowledge as breaking news which irritates.
And apparently a misrepresentation of the truth to force an erroneous conclusion which infuriates.
What it ultimately boils down to, is ignorance and (rugged individualists that you are) blind reliance on others to make "Safe" every last aspect of your environment.
Now "Codeine", if it's going to affect you at all, does so, because your body has successfully metabolised it into heroin.

(3,622 posts)Anyone with any knowledge drugs and especially acetaminophen knows that overdosing on acetaminophen causes hepatotoxicity. The big problem is there are many products with acetaminophen and people are not paying attention to what they are taking. Maybe it should go back to being a prescription drug since most people can't read a label or understand dosing. By the way he left that little fact out of the video.
He and the other person where making more than a few misstatements and over exaggerations. That is what my complaint is about but your lack of intellectual acuity seems to hinder your ability to reason.
He is a shyster lawyer looking for a quick buck. And of course all pharmaceutical companies and their employees are criminals. That is what he implies and since he is a lawyer he must be right. I would say that pharmaceutical companies do have their issues but it is not anything near 100% evil as Papantonio has repeatedly said. He overstates his position and it gives in less credibility.

(3,910 posts)Just another science biostitute defending the indefensible...for the right price, I'm sure.
As for overstating a position, I think I'd trust a man who has actually looked through the documents from these industries - someone that has seen, first hand, the cover ups, the lies, and the deception than someone posting online claiming to be a "scientist." I've never actually met a progressive that would defend drug companies like this, which again, leads me to believe that you are little more some sort of corporate troll.
(And for the record, Mr. "Scientist," the ability to reason is not tied to intellectual acuity at all. A basic neuroscience course would have taught you that.)

(3,622 posts)and my political views are closer to socialism than capitalism, similar to the Scandinavian model . Nice personal attacks. To me your "everything is black and white" argument is reminiscent of right wing ideology. I have never seen a progressive or liberal have a "black and white" extreme worldview as you do.
You might want to seek medical help. You might be suffering from an increase in tau protein build up in your neurons from the cascade affect of increased amyloid-beta.
