"Less than a week after a tiny Pennsylvania borough announced the
hiring of five new police officers to keep the community safe,, a
group of at least seven officers barged into a womans home uninvited,
kicking down a bedroom door before handcuffing her, then rummaging
through her personal items, all because they were looking for her
landlady.Robyn Ruckman managed to capture the first 2:31 minutes
of Wednesdays incident on video, but Turtle Creek police turned the
camera off after discovering it."

(6,057 posts)At first, I doubted Ms. Ruckman's story. It seemed odd that the owner and Ms. Ruckman both had the same first name.
But if the cops had any brains, they would have known that the owner has a different mailing address (which they should have verified through county records)!
And even if they had the right person at the right address, their swearing and unprofessional behavior should be enough for disciplinary action.
The supervisor of these clowns should be fired IMMEDIATELY!

(6,057 posts)No name tag. As ex-law enforcement, that's the first thing that struck me as "odd".
Also, on the video Robyn mentioned they "searching her apt."....... it's legal (when serving an arrest warrant) to look into rooms (officer safety) ...... but it's NOT legal to root through her belongings (without a search warrant) or tamper with her video camera.

(8,396 posts)Exactly what "newly acquired police powers" is the headline talking about? Seems to me it's more a case of police abusing powers they already have.
