I find these sorts of videos touching, but I can't relate. I didn't like my Dad much... Honeycombe8 May 2013 #3

young girl who's fiance was overseas threw out the first pitch at a game. Fiance was the catcher, he unmasked, she ran to him, he proposed, she said yes, the crowd said Ahhhhhhh

I remember how I felt when my brother walked through the front door from Vietnam on the day that Armstrong landed on the moon. Much happiness to the family.

if he had popped up after he'd been gone for a while, I can't say how I would've reacted. Not with a run and hug, for sure. I was surprised then, and am still surprised, when kids like their Dads.

I was fortunate in having a really good dad with whom I was quite close.

I hope you were close to your mother or a grandparent or some other member of your family.

My family is mostly gone now and I miss them more than anything in the world.

That's why I said I was surprised to find out that, say, Pat in the neighborhood, her dad came home every night. I felt so sad for Pat. At least my dad stayed away for long periods of time. I didn't realize that other kids didn't dislike their dads.

I'm still surprised and cannot relate, as a 50-something adult, to the feeling of liking your dad. It seems unnatural to me to like your dad. I don't view this as a sad or bad thing. I guess because it's not like I lost anything. It's a feeling that was never there, so it just is.
