(12,041 posts)That gun control is a losing issue. Sorry gun nuts, the public rejects your NRA bullshit. You can scream "1994!!!" all you want but you have to go back nearly two decades, we only have to go back to 2012 when NRA endorsed candidates got their asses kicked while candidates with F ratings from the NRA won their elections.

(16,993 posts)People are tired of the news stories about a gun crazy with a gun threatening someone. They're tired of small children being massacred. They're tired of reading about all the accidental gun deaths by a gun owned by a "responsible" gun owner.
The public is tired of being told we're expected to trust all strangers when it comes to guns. We're supposed to trust that they'll do the right thing, and not shoot us and our loved ones dead on the spot because they're ____________________________ (fill in the blank).
The American people want responsible gun laws enacted. Those in Congress who won't listen won't retain their seats. It WILL happen. It has to happen to honor all the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims over the years. Those who survive must do this for them, because they can no longer do it themselves. Someone with the right to bear arms had their rights protected, but the dead people obviously did not have their right to life protected.

(6,829 posts)This is simply taxation without representation. Nothing more or less.
Our government has sure become tyrannical after being absolutely corrupted by our corporate written laws favoring corporations at the expense of the bottom 99%.
History has shown that really bad stuff happens hen the wealthy and powerful completely loose their shame, integrity, honor and empathy for their fellow human being.
Our wealthy elite have depersonalized us to an extent that's rapidly trending in the direction the Nazi's took towards jewish people. Hyperbole, but it's a work in process considering what a psychopath you must be to deliberately cause so much unneeded human misery to satiate your greed and selfishness.
With modern technology, who's to say how today's French Revolution would manifest itself?
I engage people on "current events" like a modern Paul Revere screaming "THE CORPORATIONS ARE COMING AND GETTING MEDIEVAL ON OUR ASSES!"
I'm against oligarchy or plutocracy.

(9,895 posts)Part of the problem I see is that these Senators who face failing approval ratings will simply be rewarded with cushy lobbying gigs and replaced with someone else who can be just as easily bought off and used. There is no ideology here that makes sense - no real attempt to revoke the 2nd amendment and confiscate guns and EVERYONE knows it...but when you have power such as the NRA does, then like all muscle it must be exercised to continue growing.

These Democratic senators* -- Sens. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) -- need to know that we are holding them responsible for standing with Republicans and the NRA in a cowardly procedural maneuver to block an up-or-down vote on background checks.
Tell the four Democratic senators: Shame on you for joining the Republicans in filibustering the bipartisan compromise on expanding background and for killing our best chance at strengthening gun regulations in the wake of Newtown.

If these Senators believed that this was a winning issue they would vote for it.

(10,745 posts)I know gun control is still a hot topic, but as dumb-assed as rejecting background checks is, IMO(I'm sure most will agree with me on this!), I never thought the back-lash would be quite this bad. Definitely good news, and a possible tool to help us start winning back the House in '14, too, as well as winning more seats in the Senate.

(1,081 posts)Because I think those that Senators that ignored the 90% should get the spotlight pointed squarely on them. Unfortunately, this graphic does not make a strong case and is easy to poke holes in. There is no indication of causality of these drops being related to the UBC vote, the time periods vary (an opponent would assume that the time periods are adjusted to best support the argument), and the Senators are cherry-picked rather than the graphic showing all of those that voted against the checks. I would guess that it would be pretty easy to similarly pick out some senators to make the exact opposite case, and if a Republican presented me with a graphic like this to support their argument I would rip it to shreds. No offense intended at all, and I appreciate your pics very much, Earl.

(10,952 posts)The key will be what happens when they try to get re-elected. The way politics work in this country, one cannot assume that they will be poison at the ballot box.
Unfortunately the voters have years to forget their anger with these deluded congress people. It has to be like never touching a hot stove again once burned. Jeff Flake as my senator has earned my antipathy. Let's hope all voters remember the vote travesty of their own elected rep.
