I am 51, have 4 years to retirement, and need to catch up. I can work until 62, but there is no way I am going to do that!! I do have a small pottery and jewelry business on the side, which I hope to grow. I will get a pension, but I will get more if I wait until I am 62, and my husband has a pension.

So what is the best way to save for retirement?? All of these warnings about the 401k, but where is the advice for smart retirement plans?? Are we back to under the mattress?

It is basically a CD with different rules. The value does not fluctuate with the stock market. Talk with a trusted regional bank.
