Santorum Steps In It: Women Shouldn't be in Combat Because of 'Other Types of Emotions'

By Tina Dupuy

John King asks if the easing of roles for women in combat is a good thing. And Santorum answers with: "“I want to create every opportunity for women to be able to serve this country .?.?. but I do have concerns about women in front-line combat. I think that could be a very compromising situation, where people naturally may do things that may not be in the interest of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved. It already happens, of course, with the camaraderie of men in combat, but I think it would be even more unique if women were in combat,” he added. “And I think that’s not in the best interests of men, women or the mission.”

"Other types of emotions?" That must be his Low T talking. Those old guys get so cranky when it's "that time of life."

In Santorum's 2005 book, "It Takes a Family" he famously came out against women working outside of the home. He wrote, "It provides a convenient rationalization for pursuing a gratifying career outside the home." Yes, he blamed radical feminism. And he quickly lost his senate seat by 17 points.

So, keep talking Rick. You're sure to win the primary against Herbert Hoover who's looking more progressive and forward thinking every time you open your mouth.

to watch out for the delicacy of the ladies. Good heavens, just imagine all the trouble the little darlings could get up to while in the heat of battle, the clutching of pearls, the gasping and swooning, and not a swain around to catch the little dears as they tumble over in hysteria! I tell you, Ricky's godly saintliness brings a tear to my eye, it does.

I'm guessing an extreme evangelical...maybe someone like the Victoria's Secret model who just quit her job (after cashing two years worth of Victoria Secret paychecks) because "her body is for her husband."

Santorum warns about Obama taking the country "back to the age of the guillotine," but that's exactly what he's trying to do.

Well lots of GOP women r shallow enuf to just vote for the hair. Anecdotal evidence for this.
Or mebbe they just watch Faux news and don't think for themselves.
Mebbe GOP women shud be set straight on a fact or 2?
Ann Coulter is certainly one of those.

Think more Dem's use the net than GOP.
They find out a bit more - got more curious minds.

U got a hard job finding a Dem woman who wud say "my body is just for my husband"
More likely to say - "I got a mind of my own thankyou"

Think Santorum wants to chain women to the kitchen sink - just like the Catholic Church does.
Catholic Church definitely misogynists.
Plenty of women in the bible - even tho they were definitely at a disadvantage in those times.
The bible story of Mary Magdelene was distorted by the Catholic Church to make out she was a prostitute. But no one knows her real background. She sounds a pretty warm hearted person to me. Not one hardened by selling her body.
(Unless u got better info on her than me.)

I will be perfect. It is a high bar that I will always try to meet.

What would Marsha do .. what would Lila do .. What would Barbara do???

What would my hero .. my dear departed Mother Mary Brady do??

Perhaps Ricky is scared of the women.

I know I am.. because I am straight and I need to excell to their opinion of me.

In a way they inspire me to be better than I could ever imagine.

Remember this quote from 1995?

January 18, 1995: Gingrich Mocked for Saying Women Unfit for Combat because ‘They Get Infections’ Every 30 Days

Patricia Schroeder (D-CO) mocks statements by House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) about why women should not serve in combat. While teaching a history class at Reinhardt College in Georgia in early January, Gingrich explained why women are unfit for combat duty, saying: “If combat means being in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections, and they don’t have upper body strength.” Men, on the other hand, “are basically little piglets; you drop them in the ditch, they roll around in it.” Instead, Gingrich told his students, females might be well suited for manning the fire control computers on Navy ships. If being in combat, he said, “means being on an Aegis class cruiser managing the computer controls for 12 ships and their rockets, a female again may be dramatically better than a male who gets very, very frustrated sitting in a chair all the time because males are biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes.” Schroeder, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, reads Gingrich’s statements aloud on the floor of the House and says she is “very, very troubled by the new factual data that seems to be coming out of our new leader.” Schroeder says she never knew that women get infections every 30 days. She says she has seen male relatives in ditches, “but they don’t roll around like little piggies.” If men have trouble sitting in chairs, she adds, it might be hard for Gingrich to be speaker, “because you got to sit in a chair a lot.” She says she has been “working in a male culture for a very long time, and I haven’t met the first one who wants to go out and hunt a giraffe.” [New York Times, 1/18/1995]

24. Gingrich has no respect for women
Sat Feb 11, 2012, 07:25 PM
Feb 2012

as can be gleaned by his personal conduct. Got seduced by his High School teacher and cheated on 2 wives - 1 in hospital with cancer

Romney has no respect for women either. Tis part of the Mormon Church. And Mittens carried it out with zeal.

Santorum has no respect for women. Tis part of the Catholic Church. And he carries it out with zeal also.

Obama however thinks women are equals. And his wife has got a mind of her own. Not a Stepford wife.

There is no denying that women and men think differently. The evidence is overwhelming for that. That don't mean one viewpoint is better than the other.
We are all different. And shud use those differences constructively. We can all learn from one another and do better

I'm female and I'm a vet, and last time I checked the term "front lines" isn't even remotely applicable to this war. Being a female leader, with male and female Soldiers had no impact on our ability to do our job, even in combat, cause yes females are in combat.

...and it's the result of (as MSNBC eloquently puts it) the GOP's inability to "fall in love with Romney." It doesn't mean Republicans like him. It means that they hate Obama and don't love Mitt. That's all it means. Santorum is beginning to believe it means more. He's wrong.

It will all come crashing down at some point, but as he articulates his "vision" for America, he's digging his own hole.

I mean, women die and are routinely raped in war regardless of whether they serve in combat. Men's uncontrollable emotional urge to "protect women" hasn't stopped that.

The Germans in WWII had women stay home and follow Santorum's advice, but the Red Army had all hands on deck. We can see the historical evidence about the outcome.
