North Carolina IBEW: Organizing Against the Odds

Uploaded by TheElectricalWorker on Feb 8, 2012

What's it like to organize workers in the state with the lowest union density in America? In North Carolina, IBEW local organizer Keith Rivers finds personal satisfaction in helping his home-state electricians discover a better life for themselves and their families through union membership.

where I work was employed by a non-union electrical contractor (one of the biggest in Florida) for 27 years and then let go a couple of years ago. He got NOTHING-no severance, no retirement, nothing. As crappy as it is at times being a Union electrician, I can't imagine how bad it must be being non-union.

As an IBEW electrician who retired 5 years ago (and yes I still pay my dues, to help the union cause) I really appreciate all the effort you put into the union-backed information here at DU!
