(802 posts)Ray Gun years seemed the beginning of our undoing. I cringed every time I saw Ronnie revel in the riches, having no idea he once was different? Or was this just script he was reading as a paid orator?

(39,374 posts)He didn't leave the party, the party left him...the bullshit line that "Reagan Democrats" continue to use.
What I really love about this clip is he scoffs at the magic of the marketplace; the Republican belief that higher corporate profits would in effect trickle down to the average worker. Wasn't buying that voodoo, was he?

(802 posts)Scaring the living crap outta me, as that evangelical garbage always did. Carter had his religious side but it wasn't scary to me. It was the first election I was old enough to vote, voted for Jimmy and was so depressed at the landslide for Ray Gun.
Wow... I'm going to have to read into this-- I simply hadn't paid attention before that election in which I could vote. I'd seen him then as the big scary GOP'er and figured he'd always been.

(966 posts)Even the Ronald Reagan of the 1980s was "milder" in comparison to Rush Limbaugh, Todd Akin, Richard Murdock, and Rick Santorum!
I love to point out to right-wingers that Reagan raised taxes, signed amnesty for illegal immigrants, and in 1994, was the main reason why assault weapons were banned for 10 years!
