first came out in the local theater back in 1970. That is precisely the quote I remember, "You have it backwards, 'It is better to live on your feet, than to die on you knees.'"

Here's a scene that stuck with me for the way Milo and Colonel Cathcart continue their conversation
walking along the side of the landing strip while a plane comes in blowing right by them, on fire, and then
after coming to a stop actually explodes into flames -- they never even bother to look over at it. I'll never
forget that scene. Here it is:

someone tried to pressure Mike Nichols to speed things up. His reply was, "Don't fuck with me I have the fifth largest air force in the world." I don't recall any reports of anyone being bombed by a squadron of Mitchell Bombers so they must have backed off.
