Today, the battle lines are drawn pretty much the same as they were in 1948 and 1932. Millions of Americans are struggling to survive, to get a proper education, and the very rich are making out like bandits, all thanks to Republican misrule and inaction.

(75,480 posts)when they were delivered the first time. My dad followed politics avidly and had me listen and read everything he could get his hands on back then. We had a short wave radio to get the best news from NY and DC. He didn't like HST because he was a Republican, but he made sure he followed everything he did. Likewise with his successor Eisenhower, so I know how different our Presidents were back then as compared to today's corporate friendly multi-millionaires.

(39,909 posts)He knew HOW to LEAD,
and HOW to be a DEMOCRAT!
Nobody ever told HST that you have to govern from the middle,
or start negotiation with a compromise.
Nobody ever accused HST of being a DINO.
Harry Truman knew how to BUILD a Majority!
"I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the Fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign."
---President Harry Truman
