In Ronan Farrow, Phil Griffin sees the keys to Magic Land of The Coveted 18-49 Demo. Farrow is dreamy and smart and cool and young and fresh and perfect and everything everyone including Griffin - wants to be. Ronan is the adorable Rorschach of Griffins dreams. He is Youth, and youth loves youth.
Except they really dont.

Two things are at play here.
One Griffin seems to be counting on a generation that has never really watched TV news-talk shows to suddenly toss aside The Bachelor to watch the cute guy explain it all to them. But when cute, albeit smart, guy starts talking The Ukrainian Blues, well, there are lots of other channels full of attractive people saying stupid stuff that is entertaining in a calculated, focused group-approved way.
Secondly, and admittedly this was his first show: Farrow isnt ready for prime time.

(41,832 posts)I have enjoyed watching his show. I don't know how people can say he is not ready for prime time... the show is not in prime time and as of today, he has only done 4 shows. Give the kid time.
I don't care, as this author does, that he comes from privilege or that he is attractive.

(5,946 posts)I used to listen to Rachael on the radio each day, I actually liked her voice better on the radio, the show was several hours, so she talked slower and was relaxed and ad libbed a lot. that is good experience to have first. Ronan, just seemed dropped in out of no where. He needs some time, right now, I am not at ease listening to him. I have watched each show, but will be skipping them soon. A lot of the daytime schedule is light.
Zen Democrat
(5,901 posts)I don't know one Democrat or one young person who watches The Bachelor, but at my workplace the group that discusses this show in the lunchroom are all middle-aged Republicans, who take it SERIOUSLY! Like it's on the up-and-up or something, which helped me to understand that the Fox News audience is gullible, among other things.

(3,818 posts)and I think he's doing fine for someone with so little experience in front of a camera. Really impressed with him so far.
