Talking Points Memo

Tom Kludt – October 7, 2013, 10:26 AM EDT1228

President Barack Obama's top technology guru said Saturday that the website designed to sell health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act drew far more visitors than it was prepared to handle.

U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park told USA Today that officials expected HealthCare.gov to draw 50,000 to 60,000 visitors simultaneously, but has instead seen upwards of 250,000 visitors since the site went live on Oct. 1.

Park said the well-publicized glitches that have vexed visitors to the website are a byproduct of the traffic.

"These bugs were functions of volume," Park said. "Take away the volume and it works."

The website was overwhelmed with traffic hours after its launch last week, causing long wait times for visitors.

"ObamaCare was set up to give millions of people health insurance only to deny millions of people health insurance" (I paraphrase what I've heard in the SNL skit) which all feed into the well-funded Republican/Teapublican meme of, "ObamaCare is not ready for prime time therefore it needs to be scrapped".

When will pundits and comedians stand up and tell the truth; that the reason why there are glitches is because more people than expected have been trying to sign on to ObamaCare?? That's not the meme currently going the rounds on national teevee.

Millions will sign up, I predict 8 - 10 million in the first few months. Word of mouth between friends and relatives will advertise it more than anything else. Then, it will become clear how needed the Affordable Care Act is. Then, perhaps, the teaparty assholes will not be needed by anyone at all...

and over time it has improved by a long shot as will Healthcare.gov! That was a tough program to get up and running!
