Republicans Accuse Obama of Using Position as President to Lead Country
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/borowitzreport/2013/01/republicans-accuse-obama-of-using-position-as-president-to-lead-country.htmlWASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)Responding to reports that President Obama is considering signing as many as nineteen executive orders on gun control, Republicans in Congress unleashed a blistering attack on him today, accusing Mr. Obama of cynically and systematically using his position as President to lead the country.
Spearheading the offensive was Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas), who charged the President with the wanton exploitation of powers that are legally granted to him under the U.S. Constitution.
Calling him the Law Professor-in-Chief, Rep. Stockman accused Mr. Obama of manipulating a little-known section of the Constitution, Article II, which outlines the power of the President.
President Obama looks down the list of all of the powers that are legally his and hes like a kid in a candy store, Rep. Stockman said. Its nauseating.
The Texas congressman said that if Mr. Obama persists in executing the office of the Presidency as defined by the Constitution, he could face impeachment and/or deportation.

Seriously, this news from the New Yorker has to be satirical... It just HAS TO BE!! Please don't tell me this country has congressman that would make these quotes earnestly!

(90,061 posts)Satire is often quite realistic, that's part of why it's funny, you aren't quite sure. I see stories all the time where I have to read deeply before I can figure out if it's "real" or not.
But yeah, I know it would be phrased differently if it was real, more euphemisms, but it's a close call. Allow me to enjoy it.

Pursuant to such a prophylactic use of it to prevent being taken seriously.

(20,450 posts)...even if he did, people would be upset and probably accuse him of being all dictatorial and Bush-like.
No matter what he does, the guy simply can't win for losing.

(55,981 posts)someone will criticize him? Well we sure cant have that.
"No matter what he does, the pooor guy simply cant win for losing." Not true. We dont know how the public would react if he ever stood up to the REpublicans. And of course he cant win for losing. We are tired of losing. He would win if he ever starts winning.
Now his fans are trying to convince us that he is helpless to get things done. Helpless? Really? Is that what they want us to believe?
I say cutting SS and/or Medicare are where we draw the line. Democrat or REpublican.

(20,450 posts)considering on the gun issue. As far as the 99% goes, I agree. Perhaps more could be done, but I'm not sure what if Congress is the branch that controls the budget. He could direct federal agencies to do certain things, which he does in his yearly fiscal budgets, but again, Congress could come back and veto specific acts or recommendations from OMB. Please believe me on this point: I work for HUD, you know, one of those federal agencies that actually works on behalf of the poor, homeless, unemployed and otherwise downtrodden. No matter how much money the president has requested for these programs, Congress has responded by cutting everything to the point where the people who rely on these programs the most are now hurting. The president could use his Executive Orders, but without any funding to back it up, nothing comes from it. My guess is that's why he hasn't pursued EO's yet. The Republicans know this. They also know that the majority of Americans do not understand how the three branches of government work. There is a very good reason why the Founders gave most of constitional powers to Congress, while the Executive Branch is considered the weakest branch. That is the truth. I work here in Washington, D.C. I work at this agency. We've been fighting against congressional cuts. We've put forward budget every single year.
(The media and the Republicans tell you that the president has no budget. And you believe them. Well, that is a flat out LIE! We work on the budgets every year. And in fact, there is an FY15 budget that we're working now as I type this post. That's two years from now!!!!)
I do not think the president is a bad person, nor do I think he doesn't care about the poor and middle class and isn't a good leader. I think there are real factors for why this is happening, and I understand that people are angry. But I believe that they are blaming the wrong people for this. The majority of the blame lies at the Republican Party's feet. Really, it does.
I'm not happy with every decision the president has made. In fact, some of those decisions have upset me. But for the things for which the president has no control over, I refuse to blame him. And a major reason is because I sit in this chair day after day and I see that we're all working hard and yet I walk past the Capitol and no one's there. It's fucking frustrating. And it is also frustrating that people continue to point the fingers and those who don't deserve the derision. That's why I stand up for this president. I see with my own two eyes. I'm no "fan" or "Obamabot". I am seeing with my own eyes how hard we work for the people and yet, we are being punished by the sequester, while the people who rely on our programs are being hurt the most. I do not blame this president for that. I will never blame him for that. And no angry or hateful words coming from DU or any other forum for that matter will change my mind. Unless you see it, you don't know. And you don't know what's going on behind the scenes where we're working our fucking asses off while people blame US and not the Republicans for it. It's frustrating as all hell. I will never blame the president for this. Never!
Yeah, how dare he? One would think he was re-elected as POTUS!
