Most women at Kabul prison accused of moral crimes

(19,288 posts)Of our spread of democracy. The punishments can including lashing on the body or bottoms of the feet until the small bones are broken. I've read descriptions of hearing the crying and screaming during the abuse of these women whom have stood up for themselves.
If we couldn't get them out of their burkas in the last, 10 years, we should have been able to keep them free of such sexist abuse, for being women.
Abject fail.

(1,831 posts)Of preventing or stemming the abuse of women in Muslim countries. The fact that these women are in a prison instead of...other options... is a step up for their punitive systems.
As Progressives, we realize that these behaviors stem from a religious fundamentalist, closed minded, narrow point of view. We also realize that many (most?) of its adherents are willing to die for those principles.
It's a damn shame that we can't point to America as a beacon of hope and true freedom for all the world's oppressed.
