Scott Walker’s cruel lie: health insurance for $19 a month
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker listens to a question while speaking with media about his proposed reforms to Medicaid, unemployment compensation and food stamps after speaking at Business Day in Madison, an event with Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce at Monona Terrace on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.
The governor has announced plans to make it dramatically harder for low-income Wisconsinites to get access to health care. He is literally turning down billions of dollars in federal money to expand BadgerCare, the states health insurance program for the unemployed and working poor, and other Medicaid programs.
And he is claiming that his move will help 224,580 Wisconsinites find coverage while cutting the states uninsured population by 47 percent.
Before speaking at a GOP Lincoln Day Dinner, according to the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, the governor said he is rejecting federal support for expanding access to Medicare because: It
empowers people to go in the private sector and find affordable health care options.

I think most of us know there is no where to get a family health insurance for 19 a month... most families spent hundreds of dollars and it doesn't include out of pocket... Please keep this kicked for exposure for this terrible health care lie..

'Those people it is happening to, if it is, must have done something wrong. They deserve it!'
That's all they need to put this in File 13.
I'm very sad for what is happening in WI and MI and other states where the GOP rules and they have been very effective in mobilizing their voting blocks. And they have been 'inoculated' against any of the facts or reality that you mention.
'It's all a lie! You're one of them, a public worker, union thug, moocher!'
I don't know what the solution is other than to vote these guys out of office in every location. But we have apathetic Democrats who find fault with all things and say they won't vote in 2014. This is how this happened in 2012.
Others of a religious bent are looking for all kinds of ways to disenfranchise those they regard as unworthy and keep on voting for the GOP. Then we have our 'revolutionary' types who are voting in libertarians who say the exact same thing that Wanker is saying - you or your family can afford to pay for it.
The ugly fact of life is that when one gets seriously ill, they are effected financially unless they are at a certain place in life economically. They can't advocate for what they need and are kicked aside in other circumstances. Quiet killings.
Wasn't Walker (sorry, I can't help but call the man Wanker most of the time) the Governor who told the parents of disabled adults in public care that they could take them home or agree to a privatized solution or they'd be driven to homeless shelters and dropped off?
I remember reading that with horror in 2010 as the Tea Party governors were ushered into office. To take people who are in most cases, physically or mentally unable to make it without round the clock supervision and care by trained personnel and drop them on the street was unthinkable, eugenics toward that group of people - the developmentally disabled, mainly. I was furious. Wish I hadn't lost the file.

(84 posts)but health care. There's a difference. Insurance means private insurance companies. That's not how sane countries do it.

(13,992 posts)Clearly Gov. Dumbass hasn't priced health insurance lately. My hope is that come 2014, he and his family will have to find out just how friggin' expensive it is.

(812 posts)John McCain would have been court martialed at the very first time that he destroyed private property doing restricted maneuvers while operating a military fighter aircraft under the influence of alcohol.let alone all the other times that his father the admiral
sanitized his son's record due to recklessness.
McCain should never have been a POW because he should have been in a military prison.
When McCain's first wife was horribly disfigured in a car accident,he divorced her and married another beauty queen but one who stood to inherit a fortune.
Rant off.

(1,922 posts)... while at the same time refusing to participate in the Medicaid expansion that goes with it.
Here's what he said:
<snip>
The governor said the protesters were upset because the number of Medicaid recipients would be reduced under his plan. Some individual insurance plans under the exchange could be bought for $19 a month, he said.
http://www.leadertelegram.com/news/front_page/article_61f38860-78c9-11e2-8eaf-001a4bcf887a.html
So he's talking in terms of individual plans. The figure of $22,240.00 as 200% of the poverty level is wrong -- in 2014 200% of poverty level will be $23.000. According to the Kaiser calculator, at that figure an individual policy, after the government subsidy on the exchange, would cost an individual $1448.00 annually. That's $120.66 per month, a far cry from $19.00.
http://healthreform.kff.org/subsidycalculator.aspx
Even at 150% of poverty level, the premium for one person still comes in at $690.00 per year, or $57.50 per month -- three times the $19.00 Walker is claiming.
For families at this level -- or individuals below this level -- is where Medicaid is supposed to come in, and per Walker there simply won't be that provision. So what happens to them??

(2,354 posts)...turning down 100% Federal aid (for the first three years) to expand government funded care -- billions of dollars -- and 9 dollars from the Feds for every dollar it would cost the state in the years after the first three.
So the insurance companies will get to keep full control of health care in this state. It's not about what's a better deal, or what will provide the best value to the public, for total health care dollars spent.
Insurance companies contribute to his campaign, to Paul Ryans's, to all those guys.
Badgercare, or Federal aid to WI -- they don't kick in a lousy nickle to any of those campaigns.
....Hey, how much would it cost to create a Badgercare slush fund for the G.O.P., to bring them on board? It would probably still save Wisconsin a ton of money.
