Change? Learn? Compromise? Grow? Not These Republicans

Hearing so much chatter about “change” in the Republican Party, the innocent voter might believe that the Republicans had learned important lessons from their stinging electoral defeat. On closer examination, however, the likelihood of real change appears nil because the party’s leaders and thinkers can cite so many excuses to remain utterly the same.

At the Republican Governors Association conference last week, for instance, the favored explanation for the voting public’s emphatic rejection of Mitt Romney had nothing to do with issues or ideology, but only with more effective Democratic Party organizing and communicating. According to Wade Goodwyn, the National Public Radio reporter who covered the GOP governors’ meeting, their post-election mood was not one of shock, but complacency.

“It was widely agreed that nothing needed to be changed except perhaps the tone,” he found. “For example, the idea that more than 70 percent of Hispanics voted for the president because of Republican positions on illegal immigration was rejected by the Republican governors.”

That would be hard to believe if Goodwyn were not such an excellent and experienced journalist, because it is so stupid, so insulting and makes so little sense. Could it really be true that the nation’s Republican governors—one of whom is quite likely to be the party’s next presidential nominee—are so obtuse and so obstinate that they would reject change even on immigration? ..................(more)

2. Believe it or not, this is actually good for us

Let the Republicans continue to live in la la land. Ultimately, it makes our job of convincing people what they're really about easier. It's when the Repukes are able to convince enough chumps out there that they have their best interests at heart that Republicans manage to sneak their way into office. Let them keep pissing off Latinos and women. It will guarantee many victories in our future.

3. True believers to the end.

The GOP has bought into policies and no amount of evidence is going to change their mind. Fox, WSJ, Rush, and other right wing media keeps taunting and justifying their policies. The small government, low taxes, and no government regulations is the panacea to our problems. The poor follow this because they take a lot of what government does for granted. Good schools, good roads, safe water all happens because of magic.
My neighbor was complaining because of the property tax, I said what do you think pays for these roads, schools, bridges, the fairy.

property tax comes from state and municipal governments. You are right though, nothing is free. People just don't want you to touch their wallets. The entitlements on the National level, are returned to the public for the common good of the Nation. Certain people just don't want it to benefit everybody, mainly because certain politicians race bait or resort to class warfare. What the Government does is make the field more level for opportunities. It doe not pick and choose winners. That is another myth. It tries to uplift the whole population.

This Grover Norquist is a pain in the butt, which certain large Media organizations have given a podium. Who does he represent? He claims that he represents the American people and they gave him this mission to not raise taxes. Really, I never noticed he was elected to any Government office? If his claim is that he represents the populations in some Red State or red District, that does not represent all Americans. That is why we have elections. It didn't work out too well with the Confederacy than either, when President Lincoln was elected. So he needs to get that notion out of his little brain.

7. I think it's great that they won't change their attitudes towards national elections.

However, their intransigence is going to be trouble in the Congress. If we get them to compromise, it will likely carry some severe consequences for our hoped-for results.
