In Fallout After Debate, Obama Asks, Which Mitt Was That?

DENVER — President Obama and his team woke up here on Thursday morning confronted by the realization that he lost his first debate by passively letting Mitt Romney control the conversation. Then the president and his advisers resolved to do what he himself did not the night before.

Under fire from fellow Democrats, Mr. Obama came out swinging, accusing Mr. Romney of lying to the American people about his plans for the nation. “I met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney,” Mr. Obama told 12,000 supporters during a lakeside rally. “But it couldn’t be Mitt Romney, because the real Mitt Romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts that favor the wealthy. The fellow onstage last night said he didn’t know anything about that.”

He said the Mr. Romney of the debate wanted to put more teachers in classrooms and claimed not to know companies get tax breaks for outsourcing jobs. “The man onstage last night, he does not want to be held accountable for the real Mitt Romney’s decisions and what he’s been saying for the last year,” the president said. “And that’s because he knows full well that we don’t want what he’s been selling for the last year.”

to shave off a hairstyle Mittens did not approve of. It's the same cowardly bully that hid in France (trying to convince the French not to drink wine) during the Vietnam war while he protested in favor of drafting others to fight in the war.

Mittens is a cowardly bully and a serial liar. The President of the United States was thrown off his game by a racist bully but he will recover.

anything throws the President off his game. He could have spent all night trying to prove the lies and not had any time to talk about what he wanted to. This morning he gets to talk about Mitt and Mitt ain't there to respond! Brilliant!!!!!

I've heard a lot of opinions about Obama giving Romney enough rope to hang himself.
Admittedly he has used that strategy before successfully.

This time it didn't feel like that.
When Romney proclaims blatant lies as facts and Obama lets them stand unchallenged it implies that Obama concedes the point.
That doesn't seem like a clever strategy.

Obama's demeanor seemed tired and lackluster not calm and confident as you would expect.
Perhaps he's had too much drilling about the debate and it drained him, I don't know.
But I think Obama's performance was not planned to come off as it did and I think it will give Romney an undeserved boost.

I just hope it will energize Obama to dominate the bully the next time they confront each other.

Watched debate 2d time, on C-SPAN this morning, and was able clearly to see what PrezO was doing while hearing the lies. He was taking notes, shaking head 'no,' AND making facial expressions, to tell the people and his campaign that that particular issue is one to be contended with, its a lie, or a change of rmoney position.

rmoney was acting, and POTUS was studying.

But in any case the only thing that really matters is what he and the Democrats do from here on.

I'm confident that they will use a lot of Romney's gargling to expose his lies and switchbacks.
