On March 3, 2024, the New York Times/Siena poll reported: “Donald Trump leads Joe Biden, 48 percent to 43 percent, among registered voters.” Millions of Americans are in a state of horror over the fact that millions more Americans are poised to elect as president not just a scumbag, but an in-your-face scumbag.

The horrified ask: What will it take for Trump’s supporters to finally become horrified by Trump? How much financial fraud? How much election interference? How many incited insurrections? How many obstructions of justice? How much felonious pilfering of national defense documents? How many contractors ripped off through bankruptcies? How many sexual assaults? How many “grab em by the pussy” comments?

By 2016, Trump recognized that his worshippers are unfazed by his legal and moral crimes, famously saying: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK? It’s, like, incredible.”

Among those millions of Americans who are horrified by Trump and his worshippers, only a small minority of them are horrified by a society that has created them.

Well worth the read. Unfortunately precedent suggests that humanity will avoid addressing the issue until there is no other option available.

The shocking thing is that so many Americans adore a dangerous and ruthless sociopath and
want him in the White House.

Is slavery and the treatment of the Native Americans.

3. I agree, it is difficult to deny your point.

But we still had our democracy and we could evolve to a civilized modern people.
A people who strove to make our country's ideals come true.
Equality and equal justice under the law.

But once democracy is gone, so are our ideals.

4. I would argue that we didn't have a democracy then.

Prior to the 14th and 13th amendment in 1865 there were people born in US and its states that were not citizens and could be killed and not considered murder. That doesn't sound like a Democracy.

5. The US had the seeds of democracy.

And a determination to end slavery.
Americans fought a civil war to end slavery.
Americans fought for civil rights, women's rights, LGBT rights.

Always trying to perfect our ideals.

That is my point, we have evolved as a people.

But that progress will be gone when a fascist government is installed.
And the MAGAs will take us back to primitive status.

A smaller percentage did not.
It's like we are in a perpetual war with the same ideals.
And we are.
Those that want freedom and good for everyone, and those that only want it for themselves.
