Recall Hand Count Audit suggests a Flip (WI)
http://myplayfulself.com/wordpress/archives/13212Freedom of Information Act open record orders were filed by citizens in most Wisconsin Counties to hold the ballots of the June 5 Recall Election
Two different groups of volunteer citizens are spot checking the machine count of the vote to compare it to a hand count audit. One group is holding any information until the audit is complete while the other is releasing comparative audit totals as they are completed. Below is one of the tallies from Ward 16 in Dane County that deserves attention.
I followed the election returns on the night of June 5 with the county newspaper editor who had been through the election return process many times, and he noticed something unusual that many voters who cast their vote for Walker also picked Mitchel as their choice for Lieutenant Governor. It was later learned when looking at other areas of the state how this tendency of shift from Walker to Mitchel was observed throughout the state. Is this another one of hinky or questionable anomalies that left people unsettled on June 5? It sure is, but what makes the result of the hand count in Ward 16 even more interesting is that it fits the description of a classic flip.
The totals of the hand count audit are shown in the boxes below with a description of the vote gain/loss by candidate.

(13,466 posts)Where is the "we should never have recalled" crowd. Or the " the union voted for walker" people.

(120 posts)probably because he knew the fix was in. I hope they do a complete recount and the US Justice Dep. prosecutes these people, including Walker. Of course they are never to be found nor the FBI as our Democracy slowly crumbles

While I normally love your blogs, I have to say that I am really disappointed that you reported the numbers from the audit the way that you did. This was the first ward we counted, and while the chain of custody was broken, which to me is the huge concern, we did not verify these numbers and I cannot tell you if they are accurate. We had trouble getting a system at first, none of us having done this before. We sealed up the ballots without trying to rectify the numbers as you are supposed to do. We did not give Karen a chance to help us figure out what happened, and we were having some trouble with the undervotes and write ins. I think it is very likely that this was OUR mistake. You lose credibility when you are hasty with your assessments and make such assumptions. No wonder the clerks dont want to let us in.

Of course we have already discussed this at length, and I acknowledge the over reach and lack of communication with the TEAM A group before moving to publish the piece. I accept full responsibility for any negative ramifications that result as a reaction to the piece. The past can never be undone.
Enjoy Yourself.

(2,354 posts)I get the impression we'll have to wait for that first group, that's holding information until their audit is complete.
There's a question at the end about the procedures used, and how the error might have been made. It's a
pretty small sample, either way.

(3,577 posts)Handcounted votes for Barrett+Walker+Trevedi=2027
Poll tape votes for Barrett+Walker+Trevedi+undervote=2017
The total vote=2021. That is different from either total above.
This total number of votes reported as put into the machine should equal all the candidate votes+any write-ins+undervotes for this office. It should also equal the number of ballots given out, as shown in the number tally and the total of voters checked off in the poll books (it would be really valuable to have that figure).
Either some of these numbers have been recorded incorrectly or I haven't had enough coffee yet.
