Wesley Clark says Obama best choice to lead country.

Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark said Thursday he wants the American public to understand what a "great commander in chief" President Barack Obama is.

Hampton Roads, Virginia

"He's made some really great decisions, some tough decisions and he's been extremely successful," Clark told the Daily Press. "Not only that, he's been stronger in support of veterans in actual resources and programs than any president in my life time."

Clark, a Democratic presidential candidate in 2004, was part of an Obama campaign roll out of military leaders in Roanoke Wednesday, along with retired Army Maj. Gen. James Kelley and retired Navy Rear Adm. Jamie Barnett. Clark praised the president for ending the war in Iraq, taking down Osama bin Laden and the surge in Afghanistan.

I think the facts are clearly on the president's side and that's what we're out to show," said the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces.

Republicans have been highly critical of Obama over the sequestration deal that will cut the defense budget by $500 billion over 10 years. . .

But Clark said the blame for sequestration can be laid "entirely" on Republicans in Congress.

&quot Republicans) were the ones behind this particular sequestration plan," Clark said. "Now that the going's getting tough and people are realizing this is a really bad idea, they're trying to duck the blame. There's no ducking this one.'

They were relentless. They really hate the people that actually served in a war as opposed to the chicken hawks that got deferments or served in the Nat'l guard and went awol. A real general though they all the sudden hate America, they are a socialist commie, and probably an atheist too. It was disgusting. I am glad he is coming out now and telling it like it is.

so did a fair number of Dems, for reasons similar to those you mention.

He's been telling it like it is ever since, but not so noticed. I'm VERY happy he's out front now, ESPECIALLY in Virginia.

He had a retired military officer speak, I can't remember who it was. I'm sure someone here does though. There were so many people packed into that room. I got to shake Obama's hand.

That is correct. During the 2008 primary campaign, I started monitoring the lead candidates on some online devices that showed their records on veterans' issues. If I remember correctly, it was Clinton first, then Obama and Biden in the next two slots. McCain wasn't even in the top 10, maybe down at 14 or 15, which was pretty sad.
