Top Reagan-Appointed Judge Slams Goofy Republican Party
Reagan-appointed Judge Richard Posner is one of the most highly regarded judges in the country. He is one of the few federal court of appeals judges whose decisions are routinely taught in law schools, and possibly the only sitting federal judge to enjoy that status. A pioneer of the conservative law and economics movement, Posner is widely viewed as one of the brightest conservative legal thinkers in the country.
Except that the modern GOP may change that.
Posner expressed admiration for President Ronald Reagan and the economist Milton Friedman, two pillars of conservatism. But over the past 10 years, Posner said, theres been a real deterioration in conservative thinking. And that has to lead people to re-examine and modify their thinking.
Ive become less conservative since the Republican Party started becoming goofy, he said.

(31,849 posts)Roberts has been to the left of Scalia, Thomas and Alito on 4 of the last 4 decisions, though he has been on the same side.
Scalia's antics and the bullying from the right just might be the thing to push Roberts more toward the Center ... which is all we really can hope for ... that and that he will leave his personal ideology out of his reading and interpretation of the law; but I suspect that that would be a bridge too far.

I almost always disagreed with the out-come; but could rarely fault his blend of reasoning, logic or use of precedent.
