I wonder if this will change the minds of any politicians. These laws are truly scary, and this is just one more way of looking at it.

Two Georgia State University researchers found that in the states that have adopted Stand Your Ground laws, the law has increased the homicide rate of whites, especially white men. According to their statistically significant estimates, “between 4.4 and 7.4 additional white males are killed each month as a result of these laws. And there is no evidence to suggest that these laws increase the homicide of blacks.”

1. Maybe politicians will pay more attention to it now (sad, that so much in politics is based

upon race). The dang politicians should have paid more attention long before this study was released.

Remember, that it is a valid SYG, it is first and foremost legitimate self defense.

things are resolved, particularly if you walked out your door carrying a gun to public places.

Any use of deadly force in self defense needs to be reviewed, regardless of location.

That doesn't mean there should be a duty to retreat.

9. Are you that dismissive of people's lives?

So what do you think about the statistical studies showing increases in "justified" killings (aka "killings&quot in states with SYG? What do you think about the numerous stories of people pulling guns and shooting when they could have avoided the entire confrontation by dimpling staying in their home or walking away? I find it hard to believe that this is sound policy.

10. Not at all. All SYG does is remove the duty to retreat. All other requirements for the use

of deadly force in self defense are still present (imminent danger of GBI or death).

That the # of justified use of deadly force in self defense cases is up is a symptom of economic and social problems that are getting worse. Personally owned firearms are not the root cause of that (concealed or otherwise).

SYG stats as a subset of self defense are still evolving and are not yet uniformly reported. I am not sure if they are even tracked at a national level yet.

Fundamentally, if there is a choice between the victim's being killed or suffering great bodily injury or the perp suffering the same, I will go with the victim every time.

Yes there are idiots out there trying to shield themselves with SYG in a manner that was never intended. Hopefully all of them get what the recently convicted retired fire fighter did.

2. The law should be racially impartial and no race has a corner on being dangerous criminals

Bear in mind SYG is legitimate self defense out side of the home.
