Federal judge blocks release of bin Laden death photos

Washington (CNN) -- A federal judge has turned aside calls to publicly release video and photographs of the U.S. military raid and aftermath that left al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden dead.

Judicial Watch, a conservative legal group, had asked the Department of Defense to comply with a Freedom of Information request for the material, especially photos of the September 11 mastermind lying dead on the third floor of his Pakistan hideout.

The group argued it was being "irreparably harmed" by the Obama administration's "unlawful withholding of requested records."

But Judge James Boasberg ruled Thursday there were legitimate national security interests to deny disclosure. "A picture may be worth a thousand words. And perhaps moving pictures bear an even higher value," said the Washington-based judge. "Yet, in this case, verbal descriptions of the death and burial of Osama bin Laden will have to suffice, for this court will not order the release of anything more."

hmm...makes sense that the man considered to be most responsible for the worst crime in the US - with knowledge of all terrorist attacks, a high-value target - even though he was unarmed and not resisting - would be shot in the head, quickly gift wrapped and dumped in the ocean - that releasing a picture of this historic event wouldn't be necessary.

Don't need no stinking proof like photos - our government would never, and I mean never lie to us. Neither the free press in this country nor the free people have any reason to doubt whatever our leaders tell us is fact. Well, they occasionally may need to tell us little lies, but it's to keep us safe (and stupid), but there have never been any big serious lies uttered by either a President or other high ranking government officials. (i believe in santa claus and the tooth fairy, plus ufo's)

After all, it would just be ugly anyway - a picture of a dead terrorist. Now, urinating on dead bodies, posing with dead body parts for the folks back home, dead bad guys like old Muammar, well, that's okay. Us free American people believe everything our elected leaders tell us. Yup, you bet.
