'Trump Threat To Unleash Secret Police In US Cities Slammed As Scheme To 'Steal November Election'
AlterNet. By Jessica Corbett, Common Dreams, July 20, 2020. Excerpts, Ed.:
Amid mounting criticism over the deployment of unidentified federal agents to Portland, Oregonwhere they have been driving around in unmarked vehicles and snatching people off the streetscivil liberties advocates are increasingly concerned that President Donald Trump will similarly send secret police to other Democrat-led cites across the country as part of a 2020 campaign strategy to sow chaos and further his law-and-order message.
Part of Trumps reelection strategy is to scare the white suburbs, which polls show have soured on him, with urban (read: minority) violence, University of Michigan history professor Juan Cole wrote Monday for his website Informed Comment. It now appears clear that part of that strategy is to send federal agents dressed like Iraq War troops to Democratic-run cities, on the pretext of protecting federal property, and then for them to attack and provoke BLM and Defund the Police protesters, causing violence to escalate and using it
to scare the suburbs, Cole said.
The exercise also has the advantage for Trump of entrenching a new form of secret police and of turning federal agents into instruments of his authoritarianism. As Cole noted, WH Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that U.S. AG William Barr and DHC Secy. Chad Wolf are weighing in on similar plans for other cities, and youll see something rolled out this week, as we start to go in and make sure that the communities- whether its Chicago or Portland or Milwaukee or someplace across the heartland of the country- we need to make sure their communities are safe. Wolf made clear in a Monday appearance on Fox News that the administration will deploy federal law enforcement with or without the cooperation of local officials. In a Sunday afternoon tweet about Portland and The Radical Left Democrats, who totally control presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, Trump name-checked not only Chicago but also NY and Philadelphia.
Sunday, Fox's Chris Wallace asked what he is going to do about shooting deaths in NY & Chicago, Trump said: I explain it very simply by saying that theyre Democrat-run cities, they are liberally run. They are stupidly run. We have forced them in Seattle to end the CHOP because, you know, we were going in that following day. You probably have heard it. We were getting ready to go in. We were all set, and when they heard that we were going they set their police force.
The Chicago Tribune reported Monday that (DHS) is crafting plans to deploy about 150 federal agents to the city this week. In response to the administration targeting her city, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet wrote Monday that if Trump sends a Portland-style action to Chicago, it would represent a dramatic escalation between Trump and Mayor Lori Lightfoot regarding how to deal with the citys ongoing battles against gun violence and demonstrations against racial injustice and police brutality. Sweet also framed the potential military-style response to BLM protests in Chicago sparked by MN police killing of George Floyd as part of the presidents effort to win in November and to show that he is for law and order while framing rival Joe Biden as soft on crime and anti-police.
Robert Reich as well as Democratic Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler made similar observations about the Oregon city last week: "Though both local and state officials have warned that the federal presence in Portland is making the situation worse not better, the Washington Posts Greg Sargent and Paul Waldman argued last week that there is reason to believe that this is exactly what the Trump administration wants. They wrote: We know Trump wants these scenes to be playing out on peoples TVs in faraway states, such asto select a few at randomWI, MI, PA, AZ, and FL. And given that his homeland security chief is actively ignoring local officials demands that he pull out federal law enforcementin a manner that those officials say is inflaming the situationits reasonable to surmise that escalation is the whole point of these exercises in the first place.
Portland may be a dumbshow for dummies, but it also looks like a dress rehearsal, Esquire columnist Charles Pierce warned. This is not an authoritarian impulse. This is authoritarian governmentstraight, no chaser. And this administration has a powerful thirst for it. It will do anything if it thinks it can get away with it in order to benefit a president* who wants to bring the Republic down on his head....

(11,885 posts)And the Republican Party, causing many to abandon them in Nov. . Add to that how trump and Moscow Mitch have stalled the American people getting financial help from their failures stopping this sooner, and now stiffing us like trump does to contractors . trump and moscow mitch made sure the big corporations got their 500 billion and billions more in tax breaks first, and trump uses our money from the Treasury to falsely prop the markets up , while he claims the economy is good , when we're headed for a trump depression. Defeat fascist trump , or this will get much worse with corrupt elections from now on for him and his family.

(6,386 posts)The campaign shifted tone, going after Biden with the ominous ads about cities in turmoil. Then he brought in the goon squads to create the turmoil depicted in the ads.
This is no different than the apprentice where contestants are given false challenges and the tape is edited to fit a preordained narrative.
At some point, it they cant get the reality show contestants (i.e. citizens) to create the right tone for the show, theyll bring in ringers and this will move from reality show to fully scripted nighttime drama.
It would not surprise me to learn that blackwater is staffing both sides of the charade. Playing protesters ready to incite violence, then arrested by anonymous forces, prosecuted in secret. There will be a few extras swept up and released to validate the story.
As this starts moving from city to city...watch the videos...just like his rallys, my guess is were going to start seeing the same cast members playing different roles. Look for the same guy carrying a fence, the same guy tossing a tear gas canister back. How many times have we seen the enthusiastic guy in the lumberjack shirt behind trump on stage?
Its like the traveling broadway show...the same actors move from city to city and the audience gets wrapped up in the story, not thinking about the fact this guy sang Room where it happened in Syracuse last week and hell do it in St. Louis next week...we just mesmerized by tonights story.

(49,043 posts)Oh, yeah, hypocrisy and being afraid.
You would think that when they are constantly protesting against masks and gun control on the basis that it is TYRANNY! that they would be against unidentified people in military gear snatching citizens (CITIZENS!) off streets and stuffing them into unmarked vehicles.
But no.
Somehow masks are tyranny but government disappearing citizens is not tyranny.

(398 posts)To see their framing of it and it was pretty uniform, shocking as it sounds, but the segment panel I viewed was all, States rights and non-supportive. So the Fox crowd appear to be thinking that this is not a good idea.

(2,698 posts)This is exposing their cowardice, the shallowness of their "Freedoms" creed, the thinness of their backbone, and quite possibly the shrinkage, from fear, of their, umm, masculine parts.

(10,077 posts)They are anti-government, not anti-Trump, and they know he is destroying the federal government, which is exactly what they want. Some of them are also racist, so theyll happily help destroy the BLM protests by making it appear that its the protesters committing violence and then the secret police go in and beat the hell out of the protesters.

No spectacle, no story, no media. Protests are playing right into Trump's plans.

(296 posts)HOWEVER, most of the grabbing was not happening directly at the protest sites. These unmarked vans with unidentifiable feds were/are combing the streets and randomly grabbing anyone they deem suspicious or may LOOK like a protestor. One protestor was on his way home at the time he was grabbed. One man was walking home from work and grabbed. They weren't presented with warrants or charged with any crimes. Just held and released. Feds/Police can't simply grab you off the street for no reason. Police can stop you and question you, however, they can't just pick you up without probable cause and protesting in and of its self is not a crime. Neither is walking home from work!

Don't give Trump his footage. Just stay home. Read a book. Watch TV. Play with the kids.

(28,876 posts)The Democratic Party as a whole is not radical left in any real sense, and even if it were, that would probably be a good thing. Also, if any party needs to be concerned about "control" it's the GOP who are totally in the control of Trump and Russian interests and do not care about America in the least and are, in fact, actively killing people and destroying every aspect of American society that humanity would consider good
