What if the next Donald Trump is, well, Donald Trump?
Since the moment late on November 8, 2016 when it became clear that Donald Trump would be the 45th president of the United States, many Democrats have been counting the days until November 3, 2020 -- the day that they believe he will be voted out of office.
Which may well happen! There's no question that Trump is an underdog for a second term right now, with former Vice President Joe Biden leading in key swing states as well as nationally.
But even if Democrats do get their wish in 144 days, it's not at all clear that they (or the country) will be rid of Trump -- not just as entity in our culture, but potentially as a presidential candidate. Again.
Trump would be entirely within his Constitutional rights to do so. While a president can only serve two consecutive four-year terms (although Trump has "jokingly" floated breaking that limit!), there's no law against a president coming back to run for the office after losing a bid for a second term.

(4,167 posts)No one will ever claim voting for him. He will be treated worse than the way a lot of Republicans treat Bush Jr. now.....you would think no Republican was for the Iraq War the way they bash it now.

(2,541 posts)Focusing on making sure DT does not get a second term...now. I am starting to see the same thing happening now with DT that I saw in 2016 between July & November. That he was so crass/ unqualified/ immature, polls had HRC at 90%+ to beat him and that there was no way he could win. Then Nov 8th happened and here we are almost 4 yrs later. The country is in a disaster, DT is a disaster and polls have Biden up by almost 10% and once again there seems to be this tone that there no way DT is going to win...we need stop that train of thought rt now.
Dem needs to start preparing for what is undoubtedly going to be one of the ugliest most convoluted elections we have ever had all aimed at limiting voting as much as possible. What we saw in Georgia is a preview of the nation wide vote coming up. Dems should be on TV everyday hammering home the issues with voting and with DT. Yet they are silent. So far the hardest hitting adds against DT is being done by a small group of ex GOPers. Where are the Dems?
The GOP has constantly blocked bills to put money into voting to increase availability and security all to limit votes because the only way we win is by massive margins 10%-15% or more. Any close election will end up challenged in court by the GOP. We need to really be concerned with having DT for another 4 yrs right now not several yrs down the road.

Also, how do we beat the electoral college? If they have such a strong hold on the final count?
