This story is incredible, and infuriating.
The church paid to dig out the basement floor in the Bishop's residence, to make a pit behind the bar. The Bishop liked to look his bartenders in the eye.

They should sell his "home" give the $$$ to various charities and rent a room behind a gas station for the good bishop.
