Man whose WMD lies led to 100,000 deaths confesses all
Defector tells how US officials 'sexed up' his fictions to make the case for 2003 invasion
JONATHAN OWEN SUNDAY 01 APRIL 2012
A man whose lies helped to make the case for invading Iraq starting a nine-year war costing more than 100,000 lives and hundreds of billions of pounds will come clean in his first British television interview tomorrow.
"Curveball", the Iraqi defector who fabricated claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, smiles as he confirms how he made the whole thing up. It was a confidence trick that changed the course of history, with Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi's lies used to justify the Iraq war.
He tries to defend his actions: "My main purpose was to topple the tyrant in Iraq because the longer this dictator remains in power, the more the Iraqi people will suffer from this regime's oppression."
The chemical engineer claimed to have overseen the building of a mobile biological laboratory when he sought political asylum in Germany in 1999. His lies were presented as "facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence" by Colin Powell, US Secretary of State, when making the case for war at the UN Security Council in February 2003.

Too bad our administration won't touch their predecessors who lied the US into an illegal war.

were committed to a war in Iraq from the get go. They had the "Offices of
Special Plans" and "WHIG" (White House Iraq Group) working all the time
on fixing the intel to meet the needs for a War in Iraq. Hell, Chalabi is still
under an arrest warrant for stealing millions in Jordan and fleeing the country
in a car trunk.

(347 posts)I agree and we have to get real. Chalabi was a convenient tool. Bush and his repug cronies would have found a reason to go to war, Chalabi or not. They knew where bin Ladin was but as long as he was alive the 'war on terror' was justified. It was all for oil, believe it or not and to finish what bush senior failed to do. Remember Cheney Vadar said Iraqi oil was going to pay for the war.

Billions of dollars went missing over there, with our officials justifying all the stuff gone missing by saying, "Well remember this was a war zone."
War zone my ass. The pallets were not delivered to places inside the heavy fighting areas, (usually highways, or places close to highways) but to US bases.

(347 posts)to grease the skids of war, i guess a lot of people got paid. I do remember one story about blackwater people carrying around duffel bags full of cash. Jumping on helicopter and flying who knows where. Just heard about it once and never heard it again.

That is something to behold too.. Mighty powerfull groups dosen't want Bush, or any other investigated for his crimes - as this more and more looks like (Not that the evidences about the lies was not strong enough before the invation in 2003).. If the evidences is shown for the world, the presure alone could mean, that prosecution of Bush jr ett all, must go forward - if not in the US, so at least other places, like in Haag...
But then, it is not easy to prosecute a former head of state. Bush jr, have some protection from the Geneva conventions, who protect former and current head of states against legal prosecutions..
But then, again, I would love to se Bush jr, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and the rest of the mob, who was responsible for the war - would end up in a prison cell.. Or at least in a trial where they would be shown as they truly was... Not even the extremely Right in the US, would be able to make a smoke screen about this.. In fact I belive it would be a bomb shell so mighty that it would tear the moderates from the extremist in the GOP one and for all... That be, if it is any moderates again in the GOP...

And the irony of it all, is that many "on the other side"; who was not exactly thrilled about the case for war in Iraq, look right true the man, and long before Jr got his war, understood that Iraq was not a war worth. And that mr "curvball" was lying all the time...
I for one, would put everyone who supported the war in 2003, if they really would have supported the war - if they had known what many did know before the war started, that mr Curvball was a liar, a bold, stinky liar, would admit they was wrong... And at least say they was sorry about it... I for one would love to se when Jr and Co was put into a grand jury, where they should be asked the hard questing about why they had to lie to get Saddam Hussein killed and a couple of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi killed in the process.. And also a totally devastated country, who might never be able to recover for the War and for the aftermath of the invasion of their country
Dick R. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, et all, should be put true a grand jury and possible a trial to give evidence, to the history, and to everyone who had/have a interest in this issue.. The evidence against GWB et all is bigger and bigger day for day.. Now Mr Curvball is coming true and telling, - his form of truth even though I believe hi is not exactly the most truthful man on the planet this days..
Even Collin Powell doesnt agree with the ideas that Bush jr was telling the world at the UN security body.. On the eve of the night, before the "history" of WMD in Iraq he was shown the evidence - and asked his advisors, why the hell he could tell this to the world, and go away with a lie.... Even though he did it, and for all time be branded what he is branded as...
Another irony, is that mr "Curvball" or whatever he is named, today is a very branded man, who are afraid of his own life, anywhere he goes, anywhere he is in the world, He is in danger of being killed, by some who would like to kill him, or to harm him, and then kill him a way just the former security system of Iraq could be able to do..

Mr "Curvball" is allready unsafe as he is. And he have 24/7 hour watch from the german security as it is. Becouse he is afraid of beeing killed by any of the many who wanted to kill him for his lies. In fact he claimed a few years back in a german newspaper that he was not given the bounty he was promised by the CIA... He was promised at least a couple of million dollars. A decent house, and a government approved job, with little job, and a lot of past time. Instead he is living in a small german willage, where he is living rather bad compared to what he once hoped for.. He has no job - no money - and living in a village long away from anywhere near what he wanted to live
But, then, this is the way of a treator - no noe would trust you, when you have sold out your own country.. When you do THAT, you is capable of doing everything.. And most defectors, or traitors, have also lived a rather lonely life after the facts... And in most cases, they end up either killing themself, or be killed by others, who have a grouge against them..

A new Beirut-based channel promising to champion democracy and social justice has close ties and is possibly funded by Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi, the prominent apologist of the US invasion of Iraq
At Asia channel, whose headquarter studios are located in the Jnah district of Beirut, only the studios finishing touches are left before it officially starts test broadcasts in December.
-----
When asked whether Ahmed Chalabi, leader of the Iraqi National Congress, is one of the shareholders, Konbor defensively denied any relation between the channel and the controversial politician despite the fact that we hold great respect for him and consider him one the liberators of Iraq.
Chalabi is an Iraqi politician and businessman who was one of the most prominent voices calling for the American invasion of Iraq in order to overthrow Saddams regime.

also has his hands in the banking business:
Do you remember Bank MEBCO? What about PETRA? Both banks were driven to their Bankruptcy by one man: the Iraqi Ahmad Chalabi. The Arab Digest sheds light on this man's fresh links to Beirut.
"Follow the money" is the only way to understand Ahmad Chalabi, according to his biographer Aram Roston.* The Iraqi politician, invasion enthusiast and former banker has based some of his media and financial operations in Beirut.

It's all a part of our long range economic goals. Spend billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars building weapons. Sell the old & outdated weapons to countries we have an economic interest in. Then kill them with our new & improved versions when we wish to plunder their resources.
