Hundreds of wild horses in California set for round up, possible slaughter

In a remote corner of California, the U.S. Forest Service is set to round up a thousand wild horses and acknowledges that many of them could be sold to distant slaughterhouses.

The first "horse gather" in Modoc National Forest, in northeast California, in more than a dozen years has alarmed activists. The government, says the American Wild Horse Campaign, is "exploiting a legal loophole" that will result in the slaughter of hundreds of animals.

The roundup is set to begin Oct. 9 and last through the month, and will target 1,000 horses from a herd in the Devils Garden Plateau Wild Horse Territory inside the national forest.

It is no doubt a coincidence that this administration targets any issue likely to anger environmentalists or lovers of wild animals. How they can profit seems the top concern for the GOP.

beyond comprehension; this is the essence of drumpfian rule.

How could we ever verify how many and what age?

They are already on a path to kill many Americans with death by a thousand cuts. Soon they will come for the elderly earned benefits like SS and Medicare.

Some of us started protesting in the early 70's and have a fair amount of past and current experience in resistance.

7. All to Placate the so called Ranchers in that area.

Those BLM grazing permits are Gold and the Ranchers who hold them contribute to the local Rethugs big time. Yup them Horses are eating my cows grass and they gotta go cause my cows come first.

Here is the real truth,Climate Change is hitting all of that area in a major way. And with the over grazing by the Cattle,cheat grass has replaced the Native grasses and Cows will not eat the Cheat grass.

in the West.

This is just a start to how the Rethugs are handling their denial of Climate Change and ability to kiss the ass of a few White Guy Ranchers for their votes.

The Roundup covers a area from north and west of Reno to Elko Nevada. Last year they cleared out the Hamlin Valley area of Utah as well as part of Nye and Lincoln Counties in Nevada. The Nevada roundup was due to Climate Change and the lose of Native grasses due to lack of rain fall. Utah was a political effort by a certain group of so called Ranchers in Western Iron County.

11. So, what native predators do the horses have otherwise?

Cougars generally don't mess with them, and there aren't wolves in CA. Grizzlies are also non-existent.

The article states the population is 10X the estimated carrying capacity.

12. Wild Dog packs and

Coyotes. Interesting how the Coyotes trail herds in order to pick off the weak animals as well as the young folds.

Carrying Capacity is subjective if Cattle and sheep are competing with Wild Horse Herds. We are seeing how Climate issues are not being addressed only politicized by special interest groups. The Horse Population needs to be thinned annually and the Range shut down to grazing for at least ten years . And when that idea was presented a few years ago,holy Hanna did the crap hit the blower. Well,we are out in the BLM lands a couple times a month,and the over Gazing by the Ranchers appears to be having a lasting effect. And with the Drought back in full blown effect,it is only going to get uglier by the day.


Here is the bottom line,taking care of the Wild Horses cost money and with the Rethugs running the show,find a plausible excuse and use the money to build Concentration Camps in Texas.
