Tuesday's other big winner: Bernie Sanders

When Andrew Gillum was lagging in third or fourth place in most public opinion polls and almost no one thought he could win, Bernie Sanders was there.

(snip)

In addition to campaigning alongside him, Sanders helped Gillum raise money, and he used his sizable email list to send get-out-the-vote emails for the Tallahassee mayor.

(snip)

With Gillum’s victory, however, Sanders now holds an affiliation with all three African-American Democrats running for governor in November. In addition to Gillum, he backed Stacey Abrams in Georgia and Ben Jealous in Maryland.

Gillum’s victory capped an especially successful night for Sanders in Florida. Sanders endorsed nine candidates across the state, including several state House candidates. Of the Sanders-backed candidates, four ran in contested primaries, and all of them won.

for Gillum's win to Bernie Sanders, without providing a shred of evidence.

Second, the writer openly refers to Donna Shalala's nomination as "less encouraging."

a lesser known and financed American political figure to win a Democratic Primary in a crowded field of relatively well financed opponents?

That's the way I see it.

What if Gillum had lost, how many people would be quick to frame it as another "Bernie Sanders' endorsement failure."

Kansas was only a few weeks ago.

congratulating another white man for the victory of a black man?

I think that the article reflects a narrow POV.

Gillum didn't run as a Berniecrat, but did accepted his help when offered.

The photos in the mailings didn't mention Sanders - who came on as the last endorser in the campaign. Maybe he was balking at Gillum taking large donations from out-of-state billionaires. Or maybe that Gillum's communications director was formerly Debbie Wasserman Shultz's press secretary. Or that Gillum had endorsed his opponent.

:large

I also think that being out there backing Gillum up against RW attacks is more of a support than using him as part of a fundraiser for one's own campaign.

"But while Kirkpatrick’s nomination gives a boost to the party’s chances, the results were less encouraging in South Florida. Democrats nominated 77-year-old former Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala for the seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.).

Shalala is still the favorite — Clinton won the district by nearly 20 points — but Republicans chose a credible nominee with name ID: former broadcast journalist Maria Salazar. Democrats can’t afford to lose the seat, but they may be forced to fight harder for it than they wanted."

Can Bernie win with you people?

If he does nothing, it's his fault that something happened and he did nothing. If he makes an effort, he somehow did something else wrong.

The man is pressing an agenda that is right for the country. How can that possibly be a bad thing?

Go Bernie and Go Andrew Gillum. We need both of you in our country.

I proudly voted for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries. I also proudly voted for Andrew Gillum in the primaries this year. I voted early. Before Bernie endorsed him. I'm very proud of Bernie Sanders for the work that he is doing to promote an agenda that makes sense for our country.

Shame on anyone who would think otherwise.

Yes. I did say shame on you. And I'll say it again. Shame on you.

he encouraged them to donate directly to Gillum's campaign. Why should we split our donations between Bernie and Gillum? That strikes me as self-serving on Bernie's part.
