Trayvon Martin’s Killer’s Story Is Still Full of Holes

I cannot in good conscience sit back and continue to write nothing about the obscenity that is the citizen arrest, conviction and execution of a 17-year-old black youngster, Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida. The ‘Stand Your Ground’ executioner was a 28 year old delusional, race-obsessed, paranoid ‘neighborhood watch’ vigilante, George Zimmerman. I was driven to my keyboard after reading colleague Jason Easley’s account of Limbaugh’s reaction and when I finally heard the Zimmerman ‘side’ of the story. A story that had hitherto seemed the very definition of a racist murder. Please pardon some duplication in analyzing this gruesome tale.

Sanford, Florida is a dirt-poor town of 40,000 with a third of that population being black or African-American. Sanford is in the Orlando Metro Area. The per capita income hovers somewhere around $15 grand. If you’re black, that number plummets to 10 – 11 grand. That’s stone-cold poverty. Only 10% of the population has a college degree.

The sad fact is that under-education and lack of money breeds people like Zimmerman. Bitter and frustrated, they look to lash out at their perceived ‘lessers’.

There was no readily apparent danger to Zimmerman when he gunned his prey down. But for Martin it was a different story. Being a young black man on his way to visit a friend through a certain neighborhood after a convenience store purchase of a bag of Skittles appears to have been enough to end his life in 2012, right-wing, racist America. I won’t repeat the entire sequence of events leading up to the death of Martin. The Zimmerman side has managed to pretzel them into a confusing hodgepodge of misleading statements, questionable claims and myriad excuses for a senseless killing.

1. When Zimmerman is the son of a judge how can the writer state

that "lack of money breeds people like Zimmerman". What is also odd is that he does seem "under-educated" for the son of a judge.

... were in the bottom half of the IQ test results.

IOW, just being a judge or a judge's son doesn't make you smart. On the other hand, it usually makes you very well connected with teh local law enforcement, allowing you to get away with (literal) murder, having charges dropped, etc.

6. Interesting fact about the the IQ results. It's true that being a child of a judge

doesn't make one smart but I would have thought his parents would have sent him to schools that offer one on one schooling and tutoring.

George "Let's Destroy America" Bush sent his spawn to Yale. It didn't help a bit. The uppity upper class don't avail themselves of tutoring, either, since they figure they'll get the rest of the their life set up for them just like their childhood/college.

The wingers are posting what they claim is his voter registration info all over the place and playing up his self described Hispanic claim.

emailed me today saying Zimmerman is an Obama voting democrat.

I don't know where he got that. He quotes Rush Limbaugh a lot and watches fox all the time so.....

5. Who is this author with no last name?

I'm just wondering, because the article doesn't present much new material, and yet the author is, for some reason, not fully revealed. Does the author live there?

Also, two minor factual points, Sanford population is greater that 40thousand these days.

Second, the witnesses cited in the article were testifying as to how they found Zimmerman over Martin AFTER the Zimmerman murdered Trayvon, not before.

So, I'm just wondering what this article adds, and who is writing it.

Answer or background explanation as to why this is posted would be appreciated. Thanks

9. Look, people really have to stick to the facts on this

Zimmerman was not 'under-educated' in Florida. He's a transplant from Manassas.

"Sanford, Florida is a dirt-poor town of 40,000"

Citydata has it at 25% more, 51,000 people. The city's website says 55,000 people.

"The per capita income hovers somewhere around $15 grand."

Citydata has a household income of $41,775...and per capita is 28% higher than reported here, at $19,301

Assumptions and outdated data do nothing to help anyone's argument; andm it just creates a white noise of falsehoods from all corners.

Translation: Zimmerman may be alot of things: Accused of domestic violence, arrested for assaulting a cop, a wannabe cop himself...but don't try to paint the 'bitter and frustrated product of a poor education' picture, if it isn't there....and at least get one fact straight.
