In Romney’s California Mansion, Cars Get Their Own Elevator

http://thinkprogress.org/romm/2012/03/27/452602/romney-california-mansion-cars-get-features-elevator-for-cars/

By Joe Romm

To paraphrase F. Scott Fitzgerald, the 1% are different than you and me.

For Mitt Romney, who’s in the 1% of the 1%, that means a “four-car fantasy home,” as Politico put it after seeing the amazing blueprints for Romney’s proposed California beach house.

The “cars will have their own separate elevator,” and the redesigned house will have “a 3,600-square foot basement — a room with more floor space than the existing home’s entire living quarters.”

but there, property is at a premium, and parking space non-existent, so some people were excavating beneath their homes and installing elevators for their cars. By hollowing out a portion of the house, they could park two vehicles where a single garage had been before.

Don't know how many did this, can't say how much it cost, but in a limited number of situations I can see where someone could justify this. On a property such as Romney owns, with space all around, both above and below ground, this seems an ostentatious display of "couch potato-ism."

A garage that's even nicer than my home, with room for a subterrainean classic car collection and an elevator to bring one up to ground level.

Does he have any daughters who inherited his intellect? I might be interested. Physical appearance not important.

LOL
