Koch data firm, i360, is more sophisticated than Cambridge Analytica. And it's ready for 2018.

Inside the Koch data mine
Meet the guys building the right’s new machine. (2014)

The Koch brothers and their allies are pumping tens of millions of dollars into a data company that’s developing detailed, state-of-the-art profiles of 250 million Americans, giving the brothers’ political operation all the earmarks of a national party.

The Koch network also has developed in-house expertise in polling, message-testing, fact-checking, advertising, media buying, dial groups and donor maintenance. Add mastery of election law, a corporate-minded aggressiveness and years of patient experimentation — plus seemingly limitless cash — and the Koch operation actually exceeds the RNC’s data operation in many important respects.

“The Koch operations are the most important nonparty political players in the U.S. today, and no one else is even close,” said a top Republican who has been involved in the last eight presidential campaigns.

i360 links voter information with consumer data purchased from credit bureaus and other vendors. Information from social networks is blended in, along with any interaction the voter may have had with affiliated campaigns and advocacy groups. Then come estimated income, recent addresses, how often a person has voted, and even the brand of car they drive. Another i360 service slices and dices information about TV viewing to help campaigns target ads more precisely and cost efficiently.

“Right now, we’re talking about and building things that you won’t see in 2016, because it’s not going to be ready until 2018,” Palmer said.

Dems must not sleep on this firm and the Koches. The same thing that Cambridge Analytica was doing illegally in 2016 because they were in the UK, the Koches can do right now legally in 2018.

We must work on social media regulation BEFORE 2018 or the Koches may screw us -- and American democracy.

I found that out when I asked her why she was "liking" DT pages on FB.

Her likes really are a mish-mash. I don't know how they'd put her in a category.

No more secret microtargeted facebook ads like the ones the Trump campaign spent $100M on.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Trump would probably veto it anyway.
Our focus needs to be about getting our message out and getting the base out to vote and then once we retake Congress we can work on legislation.

What happens if their social media manipulation keeps the Senate in GOP hands and even worse affects the House outcome??

i360 needs serious, serious scrutiny. Right now. Congress can call attention to them. Call Warner and Burr and your senators and tell them talk about social media political ads and i360.

I am not arguing against that I am just pointing out the fact that right now getting legislation passed before the 2018 elections is about as likely as me winning the Powerball and the MegaMillions back to back.

It's the money. More money is spent by Koch and Mercer and friends than rich dems.

American oligarchs, GOP billionaires, trying to screw with our politics for their profit.
