Trade Is An Identity Issue, And Trump Knows It

There's little question that when President Trump holds a rally in Moon Township, Penn., Saturday night he will tout the tariffs he imposed on imported steel and aluminum this week.

Western Pennsylvania is steel country, after all, so his message should play well there. But it will likely resonate with millions of other Americans, well beyond steel plants.

That's because, on top of all the economic implications of new tariffs, trade is also an identity issue. That doesn't mean it's overtly a race or gender issue, as the phrase "identity politics" tends to evoke — rather, it taps into a specific idea of what it means to be American. That identity is loaded with nostalgia and emotion, which together have been at the core of Trump's message since day one and appealed to millions of white, working-class voters who supported his campaign.

We believe that after Tuesday's special election the bastard won't be talking tariffs again. My god if Saccone wins this we will be screwed once again.

He’s clearly trying to help saccone
Push back! Protest the rally. If the protest is big enough it will defang the rally. Bring friends with you!

My parents, sister, & brother-in-law still live in SWPA. Unfortunately, they're not in the 18th. I hope to wake up Wednesday & see that Conor Lamb is a new congressman!

As with any con artist, Trump tailors his story to his audience, despite the facts.

I hate the hornets so I'm going to smack their nest with a baseball bat -- and they won't dare retaliate because my bat is soooo much bigger than any hornet.

Yeah, that'll work.

He believes if the format of the show remains the same he will get renewal ratings.

He's a salesman, and some part of America bought his story. Everything he does is to sell that story once again.

Just like he's used it for many other issues , and its nothing but an act from the orange con man, again. They're also planning to destroy Social Security, and he's already started, which should scare the hell out of everyone.
