'Peter Thiel Announces Departure from Silicon Valley in Pathetic Fashion, good riddance'
AlterNet, By Lis Posner, Feb. 15, 2018
Billionaire investor Peter Thiel is giving up on Silicon Valley and moving his firm to Los Angeles, and according to the Wall Street Journal, his reasons are politically motivated.
Thiel has told friends he's frustrated by the Bay Area's reluctance to accept his conservative beliefs.
Per the Journal, Mr. Thiel has grown more disaffected by what he sees as the intolerant, left-leaning politics of the San Francisco Bay Area, and increasingly pessimistic about the prospects for tech businesses amid greater risks of regulation, they said.
"San Francisco is a one-party state," Thiel said in January, at Stanford University. "That's where you get into trouble politically in our society, when you're all on one side."..

(45,003 posts)This may have more to do with Thiel's vainglorious desire to hang out with celebrities. If he wants rightwing friends, he should move to Kansas or West Virginia... but ironically they don't like people like Thiel one bit. This one is confused.

(41,145 posts)I've noticed, and yes confused. Who knows if he'll be happier and more prosperous in the LA scene. For his avid support of Trump, stating that women shouldn't have got the vote, and other views, I don't really care.
Nah, don't think the German-born tech billionaire would fit into either Kansas or WV, not his style. Also, his employee JD Vance, corporate lawyer and Silicon Sellout wrote that fast and dirty book "Hillbilly Elegy" that was released just after Trump's election.
Quickly lauded by the Left and Right, and a NYT 'bestseller' Elegy served to supply many, especially in political circles with a cause and scapegoat for the surprising election of Trump. The book is a self serving, self congratulatory tome lacking any real research and truth about the region and community he descends from, Kentucky, Ohio, Central Appalachia.
Written at age 30, it's JD's story, his rise to greatness, Yale Law, SV, after growing up in an Ohio rust-belt town in a dysfunctional family. An area that he claims typifies the local, poor white trash that spend their money on big TVs and fancy food. Just what libertarians and authoritarians want to believe. The guy's a con, exploiter and pig.
