Anti-Semitic blackshirts made a lot of noise in London before World War II. The real agents of Hitler in England werent in the streetsthey were higher up.

On a searingly hot summers day in 1935 the Nazis staged one of their set-piece rallies near the city of Hesselberg. On the platform with members of the Nazi party leadership one figure stood outunfamiliar but striking and resembling the ideal of Aryan womanhood from a Wagner opera. She was over 6 feet tall, blond, and wearing a black shirt.
Directly behind her was the most virulent anti-Semite in the Nazi party, Julius Streicher. The blonde was a close friend of Streichers and, more than that, an exhibit that he was proud to promote because she was no Rhinemaiden. Her name was Unity Mitford and the black shirt indicated her allegiance to the British Union of Fascists.
Streicher published a newspaper, Der Sturmer (The Stormer), long the platform for his views, including the medieval legend that Jews killed Christian children to use their blood to make matzoh. After the rally the paper sent a reporter to interview Mitford and she delivered:
If only England were inspired enough to have someone of your Fuhrers greatness, then everyone would fall into line and even the English would have to come to recognize that this system would not mean the denial of personal freedom. For years I have belonged to the Mosley movement.

Unity is seen here in her Blackshirt uniform with Fritz Stadelmann, one of Hitler's adjutants.
Below: Unity and Adolf Hitler, Bayreuth, Germany, 1936.
Unity returns to her home in High Wycombe, England on a stretcher after living in Germany for several years. She shot herself in the head after learning that war had been declared between her homeland of Britain and her spiritual home of Germany. Adolf Hitler paid for all of her hospital bills and arranged for her to be returned to Britain

Not sure though as the reviews, at least on Amazon, aren't very good. https://www.amazon.com/Six-Lives-Mitford-Sisters/dp/B01K8OIB0S

(100 posts)The class system was far more important here in those days.
And practically everybody fell into line.
The massive anti-semitism and anti-foreigner and anti-anybody-from-a class-below-us doesn't really exist any more - actually, the anti-foreigner trope is still there but seldom in public. (see the running catastrophe of Brexit)
Oh, and anti-American too, you lot were ignorant vulgar materialists. Pity your leader exemplies every negative view about Yanks.
If Wallis Simpson had been an English rose like Diana rather than a twice-divorced rich socialite, and American to boot, the Establishment would have found some compromise.

(779 posts)As someone who is now old, talk of nazis etc has brought back loads of memories, things I never wanted to think of again. As a small child I lived in England during the war, I remember when the troops liberated the nazi prisoner of war camps, the pictures of mountains and mountains of corpses, nude and just skin and bones. I guess the nazis did not have time to incinerate them, I also remember
the pictures of survivors, clinging the wire fences, almost starved to death, dirty and in rags, their eyes looked dead, they had given up all hope.
When these people over here talk about being neo nazis, I wonder if they even know what they are saying, I cannot think any human being, having seen what the nazis did would act in such a fashion.
Of course, they would not even be allowed in Germany now.
