I Voted for Trump. And I Sorely Regret It.

When Donald Trump first announced his presidential campaign, I, like most people, thought it would be a short-lived publicity stunt. A month later, though, I happened to catch one of his political rallies on C-Span. I was riveted.

I supported the Republican in dozens of articles, radio and TV appearances, even as conservative friends and colleagues said I had to be kidding. As early as September 2015, I wrote that Mr. Trump was “the most serious candidate in the race.” Critics of the pro-Trump blog and then the nonprofit journal that I founded accused us of attempting to “understand Trump better than he understands himself.” I hoped that was the case. I saw the decline in this country — its weak economy and frayed social fabric — and I thought Mr. Trump’s willingness to move past partisan stalemates could begin a process of renewal.

It is now clear that my optimism was unfounded. I can’t stand by this disgraceful administration any longer, and I would urge anyone who once supported him as I did to stop defending the 45th president.

Far from making America great again, Mr. Trump has betrayed the foundations of our common citizenship. And his actions are jeopardizing any prospect of enacting an agenda that might restore the promise of American life.

regret it" story on CNN, but it was interesting to read the entire OP. It is amazing that the author of the OP is able to express himself quite well yet was so clueless about Trumps history, his horrendous, racist campaign, his lack of character and his ignorance. The reasons he gives for voting Trump are just pitiful. Sometimes I wonder if having eight years of a classy and intelligent president-- someone who was admired throughout the world-- made these idiots think anyone could do the job. Maybe President Obama just handled the Presidency with such class and skill that he made it look easy? Never underestimate the stupidity of the 30-odd%.

He says he liked Trump's topics, but he never looked for Trump's actually written policies of any of those issues... because there weren't any, not then, not now.

He ever admits that Trump "was never going to fulfill all of his over-the-top promises", but he had a fantasy that somehow trump would change.

He goes on to admit that he was "sympathetic to Mr. Trump" and he gave him the "benefit of the doubt". To this day, he thinks that Trump can still "save his administration", so despite all his valid criticisms... he's "not ready to give up."

There you have it, Republicans have no moral compass, no integrity and no concern beyond scoring points for the GOP.

Just say the Democrats run a horrible candidate while the Republican is actually moderate, would you the vote for the Republican? Of course not, you have Supreme Court justice picks and vetoing the other parties laws to think of, you need your person in the White House.
