Ulster Savings Bank hit with racial-discrimination suit involving mortgages

The Fair Housing Justice Center bases its lawsuit claims on a two-year investigation into the Kingston-based lender’s practices using white and black testers who were sent in to inquire about mortgages.

“The investigation revealed that loan officers repeatedly recommended lower home prices and loan amounts and less favorable terms for African-Americans who presented better qualifications - higher incomes, more assets and less debt, and better credit scores - than the white testers with whom they were matched,” FHJC said in a news release.
