From a review: "Classic brilliant satirical collection of short short stories lambasting bureaucracy in the context of Communist Poland, most the length of a newspaper column. Among my favorites - the title piece about the construction of a zoo elephant out of rubber, which then floats away, "The Parson and the Band" in which religion takes a hard look at frivolity and both win, and "I'm Subtle" which examines shyness, however there are many more which resonated with empathy for the human condition. 42 pieces in all, most of which evinced a smile or a chuckle."

One of my favorite books in high school.
