Trump’s numbers don’t match Clinton’s electoral map realities

SEPTEMBER 2, 2016 12:33 PM
BY ADAM C. SMITH
Tampa Bay Times

... Let’s assume Trump wins the 22 states that have gone Republican in each of the past four elections and Clinton wins the 18 states that have gone Democratic in each of the past six ...

Put the reliably red states in Trump’s column and reliably blue in Clinton’s. She starts off with 242 electoral votes to 180 for Trump. That leaves 10 potential battleground states — Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico — with a total of 116 electoral votes.

Trump practically has to sweep those states to win. But Clinton could lose every one of those states except Florida and still win the presidency. Or she could merely win Virginia (where she is heavily favored) and Ohio (where she narrowly leads). In other words, she has multiple paths, Trump doesn’t.

Demographics pose another hurdle to the Republican nominee’s path to 270, and Trump has done little to help himself by broadening his appeal ...

I sincerely hope that this election sees Hillary Clinton win by such huge margins nationwide that it is, obviously and undeniably, a thorough repudiation of right-wing Republican conservative ideology. Such that, in the future, any Republican candidate that even thinks about trending toward Tea-Party-like policies, is swiftly and unfavorably compared to Donald Trump by Democrats, of course, but also by a vast majority of Republicans who will finally understand that a strong, prosperous American future does not lie down that dark and ignorant path.

Because I'll bet any money that the Republican's will mount an Impeachment proceeding shortly after she's sworn in.

That the first thing Democrats do after winning an election is to immediately play nice with Republicans.

I hope that after Hillary wins...Democrats use the bully pulpit to continuously expose the Republican party and its members and supporters for the bigots, racists, and sociopaths that they are.
