Thousands Take To The Streets To Protest Germany’s Immigration Policy

THOUSANDS have lined the streets of Berlin and other towns in Germany to protest against Angela Merkel’s “open door” immigration policy.

The protesters blame the Chancellor for the recent spate of terrorist attacks in the country and across Europe.

A crowd claimed to be as large has 10,000 has gathered outside Berlin’s Washington Square listening to speeches and chanting “Merkel muss weg!” (Merkel must go).

The hashtag #MerkelMussWeg was trending on twitter before the event with reaching hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

Especially "claimed to be as large as 10,000" means it's probably not that large.

You get crowds that big for outdoor beer fests.

Not to minimize the danger of right wing anti-immigrant fervor, here there or anywhere, but given the recent news I would have expected a much larger turn out.

If it trended at any point, it's not doing so now (1 new tweet in the last ten minutes).

Many of the tweets on it are from the usual white supremacist crowd, including a number from the US, and the few media articles linked in the tweets are mainly from the UK's Daily Express (which supports UKIP and is generally a racist rag, rivaled by the Sun, where the OP's story comes from) and rather a lot from a site called "The Real Strategy", which simply regurgitates the Express's article, and whose promoted current news items currently include:

"#DNCWalkout - Over Half the DNC Audience Marched Out on Hillary (VIDEO)"

"Bizarre Video! Hillary Clinton Twitching Uncontrollably!"

"Government Knew Fluoride Kills Blacks Before Adding to Water"

and

"Muslim Female Athletes Competing Wrapped in Cloaks".
