From its very birth, the Confederate battle flag was a symbol of the Confederacy, which had slavery as one of its founding principles. The CSA Constitution has no less than five statements outlining that practice. The historical record is full of statements regarding the flags of the Confederacy as being banners emblematic of “the heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race” or, more to the point, “such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young confederacy ... it would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations and be hailed by the civilized world as the white man’s flag.”

I would suggest either getting used to terms like “racist,” “redneck” and “cracker” or get a new standard that represents Southern heritage ...

1. The only Confederate flag that ever mattered

is the White flag of surrender. We need to fly that one with "Surrender Monkey Flag" written on it.

For the record, I'm an old White man, born in the deep south and have always been ashamed by the other one.

2. All "antebellum South" says to me is the time when slavery was still legal in the US.

When you are nostalgic for the days of slavery, you need to re-assess.
